To follow up on the IRAD files: Note that they hold the marriage license applications for 1876-1935. These can sometimes be invaluable as they contain more information that you would find on the marriage record. Also the Delayed birth records are great but when you get these records be aware that they are only as good as the information given at the time. As I found with my great grandmother who gave false information when applying for hers. These were generally filed when no original birth record was filed and generally after 1935 when you needed a birth certificate to get a Social Security card. Now does anyone know which Funeral homes in DeWitt County have older records? This is another invaluable source for information. They generally have a copy of the obit in the records along with named relatives etc. Much more information than what is on a death certificate. I will try to gather all of this type information when and if I get to make my trip back this summer. I will let everyone know when that takes place. Meanwhile if anyone that lives in the area will contact me privately I would gladly send copying fees for any information I can post on the list and on the county page.
