They are from the Clinton Register Earliene [email protected] 2/1895 Walden A Mother in Isarel Called Home Mrs. Sallie WALTERS WALDEN was born in DeWitt County on the 8th of August, 1829, and died at her home, in almost the same neighborhood in which she was born, last Monday, Febuary 4th, aged Sixty-five years. She was married to James Walden September 14, 1848, and began housekeeping on the farm where she died. Seven sons were born to them and all are living- John W., David H., James F., Robert T., Willis E., Oliver M., and Dwight. The six older boys are married and are settled on farms of their own and are engaged in the stock business. Robert is a School Teacher, and Dwight is the bachelor of the family. Twenty-eight grand children and one great grand child survive her. Mr. James WALDEN is nearing his threescore years and ten. His wife was truly a helpmate to him. She was a woman of remarkable energy, and when her children were young and Mr. WALDEN was an invalid she managed the entire business and made it profitable. Mrs. WALDEN was an earnest Christian woman, and her home was always open to the entertainment of the Ministers of RUCKER CHAPEL. She was zealous in good works. Mrs. WALDEN always took a warn interest in politics and she was an intense Republican. Always during political campaigns she entertained the Republican speakers and the glee club when meetings were held in her neighborhood. Her aged partner will miss her more than all the others, for they had spent nearly fifty years together. 3/1895 Wand A sad death occurred in Farmer City last Monday. A. M. WAND is the proprietor of a store in that town, and for years his health has been so poor that his wife had to take an active part in the management of the business. The WANDS moved to Farmer City and were engaged in a general store business in the Young & Gould building, which was burned down last September. They lost heavily by the fire, but they got another building and moved into it the remnant of the stock saved and tried it again. In January they got back to the old stand in a new building, and while Mrs. WAND was in Chicago buying goods she caught cold, which developed into Typhoid fever, and then death. Mrs. WAND was only thirty-two years old. She was a woman of indomitable energy, and on account of her husband's sickly condition the whole burden of the business rested on her. 3/1895 Clark Caroline WINSLOW CLARK, grandmother of Dell CROWDEN, a compositor in the Register office, died at Dell's home in this city last Sunday morning, and on Monday her remains were interred at Woodlawn. The aged lady was born in Butternut, Oswego County, NY, November 30, 1813. On the 31st of October, 1839, at Rome, NY., she was united in marriage to Welcome S. CLARK. Six children were born to them, Mrs. E.J. CROWDEN being one of her daughters. The family came to Illinois in 1853, and settled at Freeport, and in 1876 her husband died. Mrs. CLARK was a member of the Seventh Day Adventists, having joined that church in 1877, and of which she remained a faithful member. She came to Clinton about five years ago to live with her daughter, Mrs. E.J. CROWDEN, and for the past two years has been an invalid. At the ripe age of eighty-two years she joined her husband and children in the world beyond. Rev. D. MACARTHUR had charge of the funeral services and made an impressive talk. 1/5/1922 Phares Former Resident Dies in Decatur Oscar PHARES, aged 66, formerly a prominent farmer of Texas township, but for the past two years a resident of Decatur, died in his home in that city at 1:30 o'clock this morning. The cause of death is said to be hardening of the arteries. The deceased was the son of Mr. and Mrs. William PHARES, for many years, residents of DeWitt County. He was born in Texas township in 1856 and lived there on the home farm until two years ago, when, with his brother and the latter's family, he moved to Decatur, where he had since resided. He was well known by many residents of Clinton and DeWitt County. Mr. PHARES is survived by his brother, William, and two sisters, Mrs. Howard RHEA and Mrs. Clarence ZEIGLER, both residents of Decatur. He was a cousin of Mrs. T.W. CACKLEY, Mrs. Dick BRYANT, and J.A. PHARES of Clinton. His parents died several years ago. The body will be brought to Clinton Saturday. Funeral Services will be held in the Oakman chapel Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Rev. M. G. LINTON, Pastor, of the Universalist Church; officiating. Interment will be made in Woodlawn Cemetery. 1\1922 McFadden Nonagenarian Dies in DeLand Mrs. Mary A. McFADDEN, aged 98 years, died at her home in DeLand, Tuesday morning at 9:30 o'clock, following a stroke of paralysis several weeks ago. Her condition had grown gradually worse since the stroke. Mrs. McFADDEN had been a resident of Piatt County since 1857. Mary Ann MECHLING was born in Armstrong County, PA. Dec. 13, 1823. She was married to Henry S. McFADDEN, in April 1842. In 1857 they moved to Illinois, first locating near Monticello. Later they purchased 320 acres of land near DeLand. Mr. McFADDEN doed June 10, 1903. Following his death Mrs. McFADDEN moved to DeLand, where she with her daughter Emma had occupied a modern cottage since. She is survived by eight children: John M. CLAY of Clay Center, Neb., Mrs. Finny BOYER, Harry S. McFADDEN, and Miss Emma McFADDEN, all of DeLand: Mrs. Sarah BLANCHARD of Los Angeles: Mrs. Louis BEAN of Chicago: Mrs. Juliette FRANCES of Knoxville, and Frank McFADDEN of Marion Neb. All of her children were at the bedside when the end came. Funeral services will be conducted in the home at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon by Rev. Royal W. ENNIS of the Methodist Church Burial will be in the DeLand Cemetery. 1/1920 COGDAL Mrs. W.N. PULLEN, 604 North Central Street, attended the funeral of her cousin, Mrs. Sally REEDER COGDAL, which was held in Bloomington yesterday afternoon from St. Mathew's Episcopal church. Deceased was the daughter of Mr. And Mrs. James REEDER, her father having been sheriff of McLean County at one time. Mrs. COGDAL resided in Michigan and was home on a visit to her parents when she was taken ill with pneumonia and died. She is survived by her husband and parents.
