Is anyone researching the Summers or Morrows of DeWitt County? My lines intersect at William Harrison Summers and Rachel Morrow. William H.'s father was a William S. Summers born abt. 1802 and married to a Cynthia Ann Isham in Indiana. I have a marriage certificate that spells her name as Synthea Ann. They were married on December 15, 1828 in Henry County, Indiana. I'm also interested in the last sentence of William H.'s obit. William Harrison Summers obit is as follows: <Monday afternoon at 3:10 marded the passing of the oldest native-born citizen of DeWitt county when William H. Summers died at home of his son M. K. Summers (my great-grandfather), in Weldon, at the age of eighty two years, the ? of advanced years being the cause of death. He had made his home with the son since his retirement from the farm in 1907. W. H. Summers was born near Waynesville, February 14, 1833, where he resided for many years, having learned the trade of brick mason from his father who came to this county in an earlier day. He worked at this trade in this county in various places, after going to Bloomington where he followed the smae calling for twenty years, returning to DeWitt County and settling on a farm near Weldon in ?. Here he made his home until his retirement eight years ago. In early life he was married to Miss Rachel Morrow, seven children being born to them. Those surviving are Laura, wife of P.M. Smallwood of Weldon, Mrs. Nellie East of Decatur, Elmer F. of Peoria and M. K. of Weldon. In the early sixties, deceased came into prominence here when he killed Postmaster Roberts, for which he was exonerated.> This last sentence is very interesting as I also have a line of Roberts from DeWitt county as my great grandfather McKinnon Kenneth Summers (the above mentioned M.K.) married a Getrude Roberts. I'm also looking for any information on The Morrow family, Rachel Morrow's father being a Leonard P. Morrow married to Sarah Williams and his father James Morrow married to a Sarah Ann. This Morrow family migrated from Indiana, most probably Fayette County, where Rachel was born and James died in 1845. Please, if anyone has any information, please please email me. I have had no leads whatsoever for a while and it's stumping me. Karen R. Abbott [email protected]
