My great grandfather, John R. Boyer, died in Decatur 11 May 1891 and was buried in Greenwood Cemetery 13 May 1891. He had three children: Clyde Essick Boyer who married Nellie Alice Cackley, daughter of David and Louisa (Weaver) Cackley of Clinton, IL; Ella, who married John Brandt; and Richard (or Raymond) who used the names interchangeably. I have searched for almost 20 years, trying to find John Boyer's parents. According to his obituary he was 48 years old at the time of his death and was born near Lisbon in York County, PA. His obituary states he was survived by "his mother, living in Pennsylvania." I have his Civil War records which do not list his parents by name but say he asked "for leave to visit his parents." I wrote for his marriage license in Berrien Springs, Mich., but it says "parents not listed." I know this is a long shot, but if anyone while doing research comes across any of the Boyer names, could they please contact me. I do have his obituary from the Decatur newspaper. I have often thought if I could get to Decatur and go through old newspapers, perhaps there would be a mention of his mother in some other context--maybe as coming to visit or something similar. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. Judy in Nebraska
