I am just back from my research trip to DeWitt. Much to my dismay I got very little research done. I instead spent my time looking for and taking pictures of the Cemeteries there. I came home so angry and disappointed. I visited 24 some odd cemeteries and have over 100 rolls of film. I was appalled at the condition of most of the cemeteries and even more disgusted with the lack of access to some of them. I even spoke to one "Cemetery Board Member" who did not even know the name of a couple of the cemeteries much less the location. I met many lovely people but these were "plain ole folks" that did all they could to help my search. I am going to have to spread the cost of developing the pictures I took and in the mean time I am gathering as much information as I can as to the regulations of access and such to the cemeteries. I am also looking into the prospect of getting at least the soldiers markers either fixed or replaced. Do you understand the feelings when you walk up on the grave of a Rev. War Soldier only to find his tombstone unreadable or broken in half with part of it laying two or three graves away?? I cried and by the way said a prayer in each and every one, to thank the heroes that lie there. I imagine that I ran across more than one of your ancestor's graves and I hope that each of you will do what you can to help me try and make things right. I may need you to write to an official or send e-mail so I am going to start a list of any of you who are willing to help with this. It is not going to happen over night or maybe within a year but I will be working on this long term and do whatever I can to rectify the horrible condition that is now our ancestors resting place. Please answer this message in private to me so that we can keep the politics out off of the list. I will be posting pictures as soon as possible but as I said I will have to spread out the cost of developing them. I took pictures of the following Cemeteries but may not have your ancestor as I had to pare down the ones I took and used about 1850 birthdates as cut off unless I knew the surname: Waynesville Township Big Grove, Fremont, Fairview, Halsey, Union, Evergreen, Rock Creek Barnett Township McClimans, Barnett, Hall Tunbridge Old Union, Baptist, Pleasant Valley, Hays/Coppenbarger, Randolph, Tunbridge Texas Township Texas Church (could not find Hill) Wapella Township Sugar Grove, Long Point, St. Patricks, Crum Clintonia Township WoodLawn (limited Pictures) Creek Township Rose Cemetery DeWitt Township DeWitt City Cemetery Earliene Kaelin [email protected] or [email protected] 1118 156th St. East Tacoma, WA. 98445-2324 Coordinator for http://www.rootsweb.com/~ildewitt/ Home Page http://www.telisphere.com/~cartmill
