Hey everyone, perhaps you should send a copy of your email to the DeWitt Co., Il queries page! Not everyone has this email newslist. I like to check the query page every so often, and nothing has changed on it since July!!! Just a thought Lara

We just added the Creek Township 1861 Tax List to our Homepage. http://members.aol.com/rehfla/elihalsey/index.html Link = "LOOKUPS." This concludes all the townships in DeWitt County. If you can find a current map of DeWitt which shows the section numbers in the townships, you can locate the farms listed in the old 1861 Tax Lists. They are the same today as they were then. I am looking for information on the MULLINS family who seemed to live in the McLean, Atlanta and Waynesville, Illinois areas from 1880 on. Some of them married into the SHIFFLET family. I know that they held reunions in this area as my grandmother attended them. These families came from Kentucky probably Madison County Kentucky. Thank You, Cheri Salz [email protected]

Karen: I'm driving to Clinton in the morning and will be going to some of the cemeteries. Which one are they in? Virginia
My great uncle & his family were living in DeWitt county in the 30's and were involved in a nasty car accident that cost the lives of several of his family members. His name was John BOOKER. Dying in the accident were his wife: Inez Debolt BOOKER (d 31 Jul 1934, buried 3 Aug), Nellie Marie (d 2 Aug), Ella (b abt Dec 1933 d 31 Jul 1934), Ralph (d 1 Aug 1934) & John W. (d 31 Jul 1934). Is there anyone available that could copy the obits for me? Or if they could find the cemetery & get a reading from any tombstones? I'd be happy to reimburse expenses. I don't know where they were born, (Uncle John was from Union co, TN originally and the boys may have been born there as well.) I don't have exact birth dates. Thanks, Karen

Supposed suicide -- Mr. John LEWIS, late postmaster of Waynesville, in this county, died very suddenly on Sunday night last (10 December 1854). Early last summer he was arrested on a charge of robbing the mail at that place, was committed and gave bail for his appearance before the U S district court at Springfield, which is to set next week. Circumstances admit of supposition that he was his own executioner. The DeWitt Courier Bob Halsey [email protected] Viera, FL
