James Scott was married twice. The first marriage was to Letitia Jane Glenn and they had John, Martin Galey, Josiah, James, and Mary Lucinda. James then married Dinah Robb (nee Dinah Clifton). I have two children for them but the only one on your list is Alexander b. 1849. I do not know where George came from. I wonder if he might have been a nephew as some Scotts did move to Iowa. I hope this helps!! Lara
Actually, the way I have it is: Martin, Mary L., and Ruth Ann (who's not listed)- children of James A. & Letitia Jane Glenn Scott; Alexander- child (3 more to come) of James A. & Dinah Clifton Robb Scott; John, Josiah, James, and George- Children of Samuel Harris & Dinah Clifton Robb. Samuel & Dinah were among the earliest pioneers of Agency City, Wapello county, Iowa. She moved back to Illinois when her husband died. They moved to Daviess co. Mo. in 1855 and just about everybody is buried in Old Scotland Cemetary there (James A. donated the land for it). Also, James A. Scott died 7 Mar 1872, and then Dinah married James' widowed uncle, Elder Martin Scott. Can anyone help me with this family??? I just received the Estate settlement for James Monroe that says he died 1862 but I have him on the 1870 Census in DeWitt. In the settlement 1878 his daughters are all suing the estate for their share. Mrs Orilla Harrold married a James Monroe 1876, I believed this to be the son James A. Monroe. Unless they are suing because James never settled the estate it would mean that she married the first James as she is listed as the widow of James. I really need help on this one so am hoping someone on the list is researching one of the daughters families. Below is what I have on this family. Generation No. 1 1. JAMES1 MONROE was born 1800 in Kentucky, and died January 06, 1878 in DeWitt Co. , Illinois. He married MARY WOODS June 04, 1826 in Jefferson County, Indiana. Notes for JAMES MONROE: 1870 DeWitt County, IL Census Barnett Township page 27 Dwelling 197 Monroe, James age 60 Farmer b. IN Mary J. age 60 B. Scotland Josephine age16 b. IN Death Record Information: James Monroe died 1-8-1878 in DeWitt. Says that he lived in DeWitt for twenty years, was born in KY and was buried in Barnett Cem. I rather believe that this was intended to state Barnett Township rather than Cem. because the people in Barnett Cem. are all related to the Barnetts and to my knowledge he was not. More About JAMES MONROE: Fact 1: 1850, Jefferson County, Ind. Census Fact 2: 1860, Knox County, MO. Census Children of JAMES MONROE and MARY WOODS are: i. SARAH A.2 MONROE, b. 1829, Indiana; m. ? CRUSE. ii. MARY J. MONROE, b. 1830, Indiana; d. Bef. 1878; m. ? CLINE. Notes for MARY J. MONROE: In the settlement of Mary's father's estate it says " the heirs of Mary Cline" there fore mary must have died before 1878. iii. JULIET MONROE, b. 1833, Jefferson County, Indiana; d. Bef. 1878; m. JACOB P. GREGORY, August 13, 1865, De Witt County, IL. Notes for JULIET MONROE: In the settlement of the estate of Juliet's father it states heirs of Julia Gregory, therefore she must have died before the settlement. iv. ELIZA JENETTE MONROE, b. March 03, 1835, Indiana; d. January 18, 1888, Dewitt County , Illinois; m. HUGH BOWLES COPPENBARGER, Abt. 1859, Knox County, Missouri. v. JAMES A. MONROE, b. 1838, Indiana; m. ORILLA (NEE?) Kathy Beauchamp A Robert Lundy is listed on page 33 of the Evergreen Cemetery record. The dates given are May 29, 1836 and Apr. 30, 1862. There are two cemeteries in Waynesville, Union on the West and Evergreen on the East. There will be no trouble finding them if you can find Waynesville. Robert Smith
Could someone possibly give me the address of the Evergreen Cemetery in Waynesville,Dewitt County,IL.My great great grandfather Robert Lundy was buried there at the time of his death-April 30,1862.If someone has access to a cemetery book for Dewitt County could they do a lookup for Robert Lundy and his wife Mary Foley Lundy.Thank you,Kathy Beauchamp

Hey Lacinda! I can't find your email address so....I got the obit today. Thank you so much! Do you know the name and date of the paper it is from? Thanks again! Lara
I have decided that this little story is a true example of why I am in one way, or another related to all of the early settlers of DeWitt. So thought I would share it with the mailing list as well as with the descendents of the Wright family from DeWitt County. Just found some papers that were written by my aunt on the Wright family. She does not list her sources, but would imagine that it was from various sources. Pierce Wright was a brother to Chalky (Thomas) Wright. His wife was Martha Davis sister to Joe Davis that married Elizabeth Coppenbarger. Again as so often happened all through the Coppenbarger family- we find sort of a double relationship, by marriage. Pierce and Martha were the parents of at least four children but we have only found the names of two: Oliver P. and Geroge W. Oliver P. was born in 1869 and died in 1945. He married Clara Orr, who was born in 1875 and died 1943. Both are buried at Long Point Cemetery. If they had any children we know nothing about them. Oliver P. Wright had a varied career. He began life as a school teacher and continued in that profession until his marriage to Clara. After the marriage Oliver engaged in the grocery business. But as a merchant Oliver did not prove successful and was soon in financial difficulty, he found a way to remedy this trouble and after two fires on successive nights had been extinguished, the store caught fire for the third time and was completely destroyed. (this is a story told by my Great Aunt Gertrude many times EK). Oliver then took a 3 month course and announced himself as prepared for the ministry and strange as it is he had a certificate attesting to this fact. Stranger yet, Oliver P. Wright became one of the best known and best liked preacher in the area. After filling the pulpit in several small town churches, he landed in Decatur where he expounded the gospel for several years. All we know of George W. Wright is what is said in his obituary.( If you don't have this one I will quote what is written, just let me know EK) Again quoting my aunt: With these few facts we have exhausted all the known and provable facts we have regarding the Wright family. We know that Rebecca b. 1822 and Chalkie b. 1824 were brother and sister and that Rebecca became the wife of William Coppenbarger- son of Jacob and Catherine Coppenbarger, while Chalkie married Nancy Coppenbarger daughter of John and Matilda Coppenbarger and a niece of William. Later Amos Wright son of Chalkie and Nancy-married Elizabeth Henderson Hays, widow of John Thurman Hays, who was the son of Emaline Coppenbarger Hays. Now this relationship, we leave up to you to figure. Unquote. We know now that Pierson, Chalkie(Thomas), and Rebecca Wright were all children of Amos B. Wright. Now this doesn't help you solve your family, .but it is kind of cute and my nemesis as the Coppenbargers intermarried with most of the early families just in this manner. For those planning to visit Rose Cemetery in the near future, the following may be of help to you. Last Thursday morning's torrential rain washed out the Salt Creek Bridge just North of Rose Cemetery. Over 5" fell in a few hours, and although Rose Cemetery is high and dry, the surrounding area of Creek Township is definitely not, nor for that matter is Eastern Texas Township, where over 4" fell. Rose Cemetery was about in the center of the isolated thunderstorm - surrounding areas got much less than an inch. This means that the most direct route from Clinton & the nearest highway (i.e., the road from the North) is closed near the cemetery. Nevertheless, one can still get to Rose Cemetery from either the South or the East (from Lane). Should anyone need more specific directions, feel free to reply and indicate which direction you will be coming from.
Could someone direct to where I can get copies of the Clintonia Christian Church? My G-Grandfather, Milton OKERSON/OAKERSON, was an Elder or Deacon of the church in 1852. I am desperately seeking any info that may give me a clue to who were his parents and siblings. Perhaps the church membership records might produce some new info. Milton and Jemima lived in Clinton, DeWitt Co, from 1850 to 1866. Any suggestions? B. Okerson Rodgers [email protected]
