    1. C. H. Moore/DeWitt County Museum
    2. Earliene Kaelin
    3. While in DeWitt this fall, I visited the County Museum which is housed in the restored Homestead of C.H. Moore. This is a beautifully restored Victorian era home. Well worth visiting, the displays are wonderful. I have added pictures that I took and the pamphlet information with the permission of the museum. I hope that anyone traveling to Clinton will make a stop here and take a glimse into the past. You will find it on the county page under "DeWitt Today". I believe that should be listed in the city directories. If he lived in Clinton, particularly in the early decades of the century they listed each person's occupation. Also there was typically a separate listing of public officials, from the mayor on down. Warner Library has a number of the old directories. If you are unable to visit Clinton, I'd be happy to look for you. It would be easy if you knew the specific years that he was the postmaster.

    1. Rock Creek Cemetary- a little help here
    2. Editors of Life
    3. Hello all. I'm working on updating Lara Braley's Rock Creek Cemetary listings page. I wanted to know if anyone has any information I might make use of, like records of burial, funeral home records, sextons (sp?) records, etc. I want to make this as accurate as possible. I made a trek out there last weekend and probably need to go at least one more time, as there's lots of stones that are very hard to read. I'm cross checking Lara's data with the records made by the DCGS in the 70's and trying to run down every difference. I'm hopeful I can account for every stone there- there's only a dozen or so that I need to verify now. Also, I have a vague memory that in the Clinton public library there's a document or pamphlet or something that I saw once a number of years ago that was supposed to be a 'list of corrections' for at least Rock Creek (don't remember if it was for other cemetaries too). Can anyone going to the library look into that for me? I should try to incorporate that. One last thing- one of the stones listed as 'illegible' Lara's doc- I saw it in person- it's actually just a large rock. Maybe 4 feet high by 2 feet by 2 feet, irregularly shaped, with large stones set in it at random like concrete. Does anyone know anything about this at all? Anyone seen this before? 3. One of our List members has acquired the following book: "Portrait and Biographical Album of DeWitt and Piatt Counties, ILL", pub. 1891 by Chapman Bros., Chicago, ILL. She will be typing up the bio's in it and sending them to me so I can post them to the County page. I am not going to release her name as I know that she would be flooded with requests, so if we are patient she will be steadily typing as she can and I will post them as she sends them. As soon as I can I will start posting and I will let all of you know where to find them. She has already checked out the copy rights on this book and they are clear. We all owe her a big debt of thanks and I will give you her name as soon as I can be sure that she will not be unindated with requests. Below you will find the Index, but again please no requests. 3. I have added a new Cemetery map to the Cemetery page at: http://members.xoom.com/Earliene/pages/cemetery.htm It is at the bottom of the list. At least until I can play with the county page and get it up there. I used a large 11x17 to start with and then had it reduced so you should be able to print it out and get it enlarged if you want. If it doesn't print out for you from the web page let me know and I will scan one directly to you. Please be kind this has been a big project for me. I know that some of the lines are not quite as good as they could be but I did use a ruler (believe it or not). At least now if any of you get the notion to visit De Witt you won't have to search as I did for them. Earliene

    3. Just received maps courtsey of one of the Cemetery board members so I now have cemetery maps for every township except Nixon and Rutledge (I know where the two cemeteries are). If anyone would like me to scan them just let me know. I am still working out a format for a map to put on the county page. By all means if any of you are planning a trip just let me know and I will scan a map to you, so you don't get lost like I did. I think I have gotten the locations of all the cemeteries now, and have worked up maps, so if any of you want to find a particular cemetery or the locations of the cemeteries pertaining to a township, let me know. I can scan a map to you by township. I am still working on the full map and as soon as I can I will post it as a new map on the county site. I am working on one that you will be able to print out and take in and have enlarged and it will be readable. The biggest problem will be I do not have any maps that have Lake Clinton included, but show all the roads. If any of you have one you can scan to me that would be very helpful. 1. Burials - Botkin/Bodkin
    2. Hi to all, I am new to your lists and am researching the Botkin/Bodkin lines. They lived and died in both Logan and DeWitt Counties. I live nearby in Decatur, IL and just located a book at the Genealogical Library in Decatur that is an index for "G. H. Tuttle Funeral Home Records "from Atlanta, Logan Co, IL.. Can anyone tell me where to locate the actual funeral home records. Are they still at a funeral home in Atlanta, or historical society or county seat? Our Botkins purchased land and settled in the early 1840's. George and Sarah were in Logan Co. along with several of their grown sons. William Needham Botkin and family were in DeWitt Co. I will gladly exchange info with other interested parties. Thank you in advance. Jane Sample Myers
