Transcribed by Barbara Dix. Taken from "The Wabash Pearl", Oct. 20, 1911. GRANDMA DECKER PASSES AWAY AT THE OLD HOME ON LAMOTTE PRARIE Mrs. John E. Decker, after several months of failing health, passed quietly away last Sunday morning at the old home on LaMotte Prairie. She was one of Crawford County's oldest and most respected citizens. " Thou shall come to thy grave in full age, like as a shock of corn cometh in his season. " OBITUARY Mary Elizabeth Linton was born Oct. 20, 1825, died Sunday morning Oct. 15, 1911, aged 86 years lacking 5 days. Deceased was married to John E. Decker, Feb. 5, 1846. To this union were born four children, on dying in infancy. Those living are: Sarah B. Apple, Rhoda A. Alexander and Isaac L. Decker. John E. Decker, her husband died Dec. 12, 1866. Deceased gave her heart to God early in the 80's when Rev. Massy held a revival meeting in this church, and since that time has lived a clean, consistent Christian life. In her death LaMotte community loses one of their most respected citizens. Deceased leaves to morn, one brother, Wm. Linton; two daughters, Sarah B. Apple, Rhoda A. Alexander and one son, Isaac Decker, besides many relatives and friends. Our loss is Heavens gain. "The Mother, in her office, holds the key of the soul; and she it is that stamps the coin of character, and makes the being who would be a saving, but for her gentle cares, a Christian man; Then crown her queen of the world." The funeral was held at Oak Grove Church conducted by J. J. Biesiegel. Interment in Oak Grove cemetery.
