Transcribed by Barbara Dix. >From The Robinson Argus (9-12-74) Harriet P. Cox, 91, died Sept. 8th, at her home at 803 North Cross Street in Robinson, Ill. Mrs. Cox had been in declining health for several years, but death followed a severe illness of about one week. Mrs. Cox, daughter of Carroll E. Patton and Martha Gould Patton, both deceased, was born June 29th, 1883, in Palestine, and her grandparents, Dr. E. L. Patton and Eliza Ann Wilson Patton, were pioneer settlers at Palestine. Educated in what is now Eastern Illinois University at Charleston, and the University of Illinois. Mrs. Cox was a teacher in Palestine and Robinson schools before her marriage in 1911 to Manford E. Cox, who was then state's attorney of Crawford County. A charter member of the Sorosis Club which was organized in 1911, she was also a member and former regent of James Halstead Sr. Chapter of the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution. In earlier life, she held office in that organization as state recording secretary and state vice regent. Mrs Cox. was also a member of the Wabash Valley Chapter, Daughters of the American Colonists, past president of the Robinson Women's Club, a member of the Robinson Presbyterian Church, and for 37 years, a member of the Robinson Carnegie Library Board. Preceded in death by her husband, Manford E. Cox in December, 1958, she is survived by one son, Carroll T. Cox, Robinson attorney; a daughter , Mrs. Harriett C. Easley, Anchorage, Alaska, eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. C. M. Phillips, of Palestine. Private funeral services were held at 10 a m. Tuesday, in the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine, with Rev. Chester O'Neal officiating. Burial followed in Palestine Cemetery. The family requests that honorariums be made to the Robinson Carnegie Library and left at the library or at the funeral home.
