LEONA CURELL, 58 TECHNICIAN, DIES, IN IKEMIRE CLINIC Miss Leona Curell, for many years technician at the Ikemire Clinic and recognized as being highly skilled in her profession, died at the clinic at 4:45 o'clock Friday morning. The deceased, who was 58 years of age, was brought to the clinic here from St. Luke's Hospital in Chicago at her own request. Obviously she wished to spend her last inevitable days in the institution where she began her professional work and of which she was considered much a vital part by Dr. J. A. Ikemire, himself, as well as many patients she served. Miss Curell was born June 23rd, 1884, in Crawford County west of Palestine, the daughter of Daniel and Rhoda Curell. As a girl she entered newspaper work, then took a business course in Champaign and in 1909 took employment in the office of Dr. Ikemire which was located over the old First National Bank. Her first work there was office work. In 1910 she took a laboratory course at the First Graduate Hospital in Chicago under the famous Dr. Zeit. This was followed with an X-Ray course at Wesleyan University. Resuming her association with Dr. Ikemire she was technician in a new office where the clinic now stands and was often consulted by Dr. Ikemire in planning the clinic. The clinic was opened in 1927 with Miss Curell as technician and substantially as assistant superintendent. Under Dr. W. R. Cubbins, of the St. Luke's staff in Chicago, who did much surgery here, Miss Curell became an expert anesthetician and to other hospital services added this assistance in surgery.
