I'm just posting an Obit that was sent to me by Barbara Dix who is transcribing old news articles for the website. Death of Henry A. Voorheis. Henry A. Voorheis, one of the oldest and most prominent citizens of this community, died suddenly Wednesday morning at his home west of town. He had been feeling poorly for several days, though on Tuesday he spent the day at the home of his son, Dr. C. H. Voorheis. Early Wednesday morning he complained of feeling ill, but before any assistance could arrive he had passed away. His death was due to heart trouble, with which he had been afflicted for the past few months. Mr. Voorheis was born Nov. 14th. 1826, on the farm he has always resided, being aged at his death 87 years,6 months and 6 days. He was a son of Mahlon and Eliza (Tutle) Voorheis. His father was a native of New Jersey and he and his wife came to Crawford County in 1824 , entering the land west of town which has since been the Voorheis homestead. To them were born eleven children of whom. Henry A. Voorheis was the eldest and the last survivor. He has witnessed and assisted the transformation of this community from a wilderness into one of the most fertile in the country and shared the lot of the pioneer. He was one of the three oldest native residents of Hutsonville town ship and in his death the community loses one of the noblest characters who have ever lived here. His early life was spent on the farm and he received such an education as could be obtained from the subscription schools. He was an enterprising and industrious farmer and had accumulated several hundred acres of good land. He was married May 8th, 1856 Eliza N. Cox, who still survives, the couple having enjoyed each other's companionship in home life for over 58 years. To them were born six children, five of whom are living, being Emma, wife of F.J. Cooper of Robinson, John M., Dr. Charles H., William and Mary, Wife of T. E. Lindley, all of this community. Mr. Voorheis was a member of the Friend's Church and his was a life of religious consistency. With him doing right was the supreme aim of his life, and his character was such as to be envied by every one. By all he was known as a good man, kind and charitable, and the influence of his life will long be felt in the community. He will be missed by old and young alike, and to have known Henry Voorheis will be a pleasant memory. Funeral services was conducted at the home Saturday afternoon by Rev. David Hadley of the Friends' Church of Danville, Ind., a large concourse of friends and relatives being in attendance. Interment was made in the Hutsonville cemetery.
