During the Civil War, Frank traveled by covered wagon to Crawford County, Illinois with his father, mother and older brother, John. Several months after arriving at the new homestead, Frank's mother died. Shortly afterward, Dan remarried. The children of Dan's first marriage were John, Frank, Gilbert, Amon and Albert. About 1883, Frank married Mathilda Jane Graham in Crawford County, IL. Their children were Alice Elizabeth, Ola Ellen, Ethel Mary, Julia, and Luster George Newman. Frank and Jane lived in a log house south of Hardinville near the cemetery. The land for the Hardinville Cemetery was purchased from land they owned. > > During the time they lived in the log house they operated an apple butter press and a cider mill. Luster used to laugh about how as a child, it was his job to drive the horses that turned the mill that ground the apples. He was paid a nickle for each batch and he used to demand his nickle before he did the work. In 1906 they moved to their permanent residence in Hardinville, where for several years they ran a boarding house during the oil boom. After they closed the boarding house they farmed and raised cattle in partnership with their son, Luster George Newman and his wife. > > Luster married June Della Spencer in 1916. Their children are Gladys Marjorie Newman (Bishop) and Mary Mildred Newman (Wilcox). Luster and June purchased a home in Hardinville, next to his parents. The family continued to farm until 1935 when Frank died. Jane died in 1958 and both are buried in Hardinville Cemetery. > > Due to ill health, Luster and his wife and their two children, including their son-in-law, Thomas David Bishop, moved to Colorado in October, 1936. Luster died in Colrado Springs in 1969 and is buried at Memorial Gardens Mausoleum there. His wife and daughters continue to make Colrado Springs their home. > >
