We are trying to find the graves of all Confederate veterans buried in IL and to learn all we can about them. One of the veterans was named Gideon B. Calvert. He was born in 1844 in Ohio. His father were probably John F. Calvert, born in 1811 in Ohio. In 1850 the family was living in Rome Twp., Ohio. From his obit we know that Gideon moved to Virginia (that part that became WV). He served as a private in the 37th Battalion of VA Cavalry. About 1867 he married Martha J. ____. In the 1870 census in WV, they were living in Gilmore, Jackson Co. and had a one year old daughter named Rosetta. Some time after the war, they moved to Crawford Co., IL where they lived apparently near Oblong until about 1900 when they moved to Effingham where Gideon died 31 Oct 1911, and Martha died in 1923. I am hoping that perhaps some of this information may strike a chord and be familiar. Please let me know. If you ! can possibly provide any information at all on Gideon I would sincerely appreciate it. Thanks. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Gale Red gf3smred@peaknet.net
