Bertha Sweet, daughter of George and Laura Sweet was born in Martinville township of Clark county, Ill., on February 24, 1879, and departed this life on July 11, 1930, Prairie township, Crawford county, at the age of 51 years, 4 months and 17 days. In November 1896 she was united in marriage to Roe Welch of Orange township in Clark county and to this union were born seven children, four sons and three daughters, all of whom are living except one daughter, Cecil preceded her in death seven years ago. Most of her life has been spent in Clark county, until about three years ago, when she and her husband bought a farm near Annapolis. She leaves to mourn her going, besides her husband, six children as follows: Wayne and Jessie at home, Ned and Francis of Prairie township, Mrs. Cellia Dodd of Melrose, and Glenn of Toledo, Ohio. One brother, Pearl Sweet of Katchum, Okla., and two grandchildren, besides a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the home near Annapolis Sunday morning at 10 o'clock conducted by R. C. Mowery of Oblong and interment made in the family lot at the Marshall cemetery.
