    2. shari horton
    3. Does anyone have any LEITCH surnames in Crawford Co. who may be connected in some way to the White or Reynolds line in Crawford Co? James Daniel and Isabel White Reynolds' granddaughter, OLLIE B. WILLIAMSON, b. Wapella, DeWitt Co, Feb 1892, married Edwin LEITCH. He was the son of Adaline VANDIVER (sp variation) and George W. LEITCH. Edwin was likely born in Bloomington, IL as was his sister, Emily. The daughters of Sarah Elizabeth Reynolds Williamson appear to be named after many women in the LEITCH family line, for example, Effie, Euphemia, Eunice (Ura), Helen Dorothea. Ollie could possibly be Ollivina, Ollivine, Olivia---or Edna (which was also a proper name for "Ollie"---as was Mary. Just trying to make a connection to the LEITCH family. OLLIE is the last of my mother's siblings I am trying to find. She married Edwin in Bloomington sometime before the 1910 census. Ollie died at about age 17 or 18. Edwin shows as widower living with mother, Ada and siblings, Ferdinand (age 44), Emily age 28. Edwin was 26 at the time. Believe Ollie to be buried around Bloomington---possibly Stark Co. IL. Thanks for any info. Have already tried McLean mail list. No one can come up with a thing. Believe them to be of Scotish or German descent. Shari

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Spencer, Canada, Buckner, Nay, Gill, Voorheis, Long, Lincoln, Jackson Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Ue.2ADI/1335 Message Board Post: Grandma Deborah Canada, Oldest Citizen of this County Dies at Her Home in Hutsonville Monday Morning From Injuries Received In Fall Dies at 102 Years The above picture of "Grandma" Deborah Canada of Hutsonville, who died Monday morning was taken when she observed her 100th birthday, May 10, 1832 "Grandma" Deborah Canada, 102 years of age, and this county's oldest citizen, died at her home in Hutsonville Monday morning at 12:30 o'clock. The aged lady had been in failing health for several years and her infirmities together with injuries received in a fall, at her home Friday afternoon, caused death. Mrs. Canada appeared to be of frail constitution, but must have possessed unusual vitality to have preserved her for more than a century. Though she failed noticeably in the past year, she managed to sit up in her chair each day until last Friday when she fell in her bedroom, fracturing her left hip. The shock and pain from the injury was too much . Grandma Canada received wide publicity on the advent of her 100th birthday and the two anniversaries that followed. She was the oldest of the few remaining pioneers in the country and following the death of Uncle Joe Ford of Flat Rock several weeks ago she was the only living person 100 years old in Crawford county. She was born in Terre Haute, the daughter of Thomas Spencer, a veteran of the War of 1812, who came west from Virginia. When a little girl, her father was rewarded for his services by a grant of land in Clark county and the Spencer family moved to Illinois. She married William Canada in 1850 and soon after they moved to the river village of Hutsonville where they were to rear their children and live the remainder of their lives. Her husband preceded her in death some thirty years ago. When 100 years old an Argus reporter visited Grandma Canada and found her an alert little old woman with a vast fund of historical information and with a keen interest in the present day. The span of her lifetime reached back past the administration of Andrew Jackson, seventh president of the United States. She remembered the talk about Abraham Lincoln, the akward young boy from Illinois who was making a name for himself and was prominently mentioned as a candidate for president. When she came to Hutsonville steamboats paddled up and down the Wabash. Deer and wild turkey abounded in the wooded lands hereabout. In late years she was unable to walk alone and spent most of her hours sitting in a chair in the living room of the very house her husband erected more than a half century ago. Had it not been for her fall she might have lived for several years. Coronor John W. Long conducted an inquiry into the death Monday afternoon. Clifford Canada, grandson of the deceased, who has lived at the Canada home for several years was the only witness questioned. He said that his aged grandmother fell shortly after noon Friday after he had assisted her to her bedroom. Dr. Voorheis was called to the home and it was learned her hip was fractured. She failed steadily and died quietly early Monday. The deceased in survived by three children, Mrs. Cora Lee Gill of Hutsonville, Mrs. Estella Buckner of Shelby, Montana, and Charley Canada at home. Funeral services were held at the Christian church in Hutsonville Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock with the Rev. E. P. Nay officiating. Interment was made in the Hutsonville cemetery.

    3. Hi Betty My mom has a book, "History of Crawford County Illinois". I had her look up Nuttall there was no Fillmore Nuttall but there is quit a bit of Nuttalls listed. They were a very prominent family; there was a middle school and cemetary named after them. I don't know if this is who you are looking for or not. If it is, I could type it in for you and send it. 3. First to Betty in regards to Rebecca Reynolds. I am doing some exploring in Henry Co at this time. Give me a week or so to run some names. My husband just had shoulder surgery--and is home for another 6 weeks. WOE IS ME! I know there are a lot of Moore's in the areas you talked about. Maybe I can do some postings on some things. Sue, thanks for looking up ALL those White names. I am trying to find out who George Washington White's parents were---and his date of birth. I know for sure he is buried in Palestine Cemetery. He died 19 APR 1895. I can check the earlier censuses for Crawford County to see if I can find the other George White, supposedly born in NY. The name of Foster separates the two. If I can find which one has the Foster line, then a big brick wall is broken. I think his George Wshington's father, George White, traveled back and forth from Casey Co. KY to Crawford Co. George's siblings are listed as Nathan, Andrew, James, John, Ester/Esther/Hester, Catherine, Polly, Patsy, Eli, Eson/Eason, William, Isabella, and Sally. This was from his will of 1824, March Court, 1824 (Casey Co. KY). Jane was his wife at the time. His will was written January 19, 1824. So, He died sometime after that. I ran George White's for all states for dying in 1824, nothing. The only person with the White name dying in 1824 was William White, 30 MAR 1824. Maybe he was William George White. I did find one George White that looks promising. He married a Eunice Dungans about 1789-1798, My mother's name was Eunice. George Washington White was mom's gr-grandfather. The children in the will hard to find. Every Catherine or others has different parents. All the dates that fit for them as far as birth do not fit the parents. some may be children of other fathers who were living in the White household in 1810,1820 census. It appears all the children were born abt 1800-1810. There were 5 boys and 3 girls in 1810 or 1820. That is a lot of kids to be born in a ten year time span. Eli and Eson may have been twins. Anyhow, thanks for offering to look up in censuses. I am wondering if Andrew born in IL in early 1800 was George's. I think a few other names also show early dates there, but could be another White family. I am narrowing in. Just trying to help George Washington's gr-gr-gr-granddaughter find her family. Thelma is in her mid 80s, and really wants to find them. I have only the info that I spoke of and no further back then the 1810 census. Well, I do have some names I am researching that go back. That is where the Foster name comes in. Thanks again for your help. Shari

    1. IN RE: George White and Rebecca Reynolds
    2. shari horton
    3. Thanks to Sue, Betty, and Rex for your replies. Betty, do you have more info on your Rebecca? My James Daniel Reynolds was born 5 JULY 1844, Campbellsville, Taylor Co. KY. His parents, James Reynolds and Eliza Spurling, were married 1 JULY 1830, Green Co. KY. The family appears in the 1850 Hart Co. census, showing James, Eliza and children, Mildred, William Thomas, Emily Jane, and James Daniel. Mildred married James DeWitt, William Thomas married Jane Weatherman--who was Letta Jane Brush previously married to William Brush. There son, Charles, took the name of Reynolds--either 1850 or 1860 census. Emily and William Thomas were born in Louisville 1841 and 1839 (William). Emily Jane married John W. Mann, Henderson Hickman, and Joseph Sponsler Baker. Several families from Crawford Co went into DeWitt Co. IL. I have recently been informned that my James may have been the son of Charles Reynolds and Delilah Spears (who was Cherokee Indian). I have him being born to Charles Reynolds and Ann Taylor. They were in Taylor Co as early as 1810. I can find no record of Delilah Spears and Charles Reynolds. I have found many Rebecca's. If you have a little more, I may be able to track her. I found by running names over and over at LDS, I have come up with a lot. Since many married many times, I would run each surname, for example, Rebecca Reynolds married a White, then I would run Rebecca White with the same year of birth. Really connected a lot of dots that way! I noticed in the New Hebron Cemetery listings for Emma R. Highsmith that she shows as Emma Reinols--or similar spelling. I found that surnames changed because people did not speak English back then---even the Irish. Whoever was taking the documentation early on spelled names from their language. Since most were Catholic back then, those coming to America had to take an Oath of Allegiance to the King of England to denounce the Pope of Rome. So, they may have started out as "Reinohls". Since many French priests did baptisms, many names were written in that language, for example the English Boroughs became Berres, again changing to Barras. I also did not understand why everyone would show in ENG, IRE, Scotland, etc. Well, way back when Ireland, Scotland were England. I also did not know that many from Ire, etc. went to England to await passage. Some had to live on ships for 2 years. Children were born in England to Irish parents---and listed as being born in both places. Once I got my history lesson, a lot of things started to happen!!! Some of the Reynolds from this area went into Casey Co. KY. That is were my George White line came from (Casey, Mercer, Lincoln, Woodford, Fayette Co. KY). Early on, many are listed both in VA and PA at LDS website. All names and dates match. If you find a Reynolds born in Ireland and it says Of Bedford, Eng, you will likely find them in Bedford, VA. Rex, your James is not my James, even though the dates are the same. With the birth of children, it does not match my James. I was told that James Enos was the James who purchased land in Crawford Co. in 1850-1851. I need to check some marriage dates. I have my James who married Eliza Spurling remarrying Martha Pearson (Pierson) in Crawford Co. I was told that another James Reynolds was buried very close to your James and Mary Guyer Reynolds. Supposedly that shows a date of death as 14 JULY 1888. I do not know if this comes from a book or someone doing a visual. I really think he did not have a marker. I would really like to find the date of death for James who married Martha Pearson. James shows having a son, John, born in KY. John was 4 yrs old in the 1860 Crawford Co. Census. Martha had 3 daughters. Sue, I am looking for the 2 George Whites in Crawford Co. If I remember correctly, one is buried in Old Robinson Cemetery. My George Washington White is buried in Palestine Cemetery. He has a CW marker that says 47 IL US INF. George Washington White was born in Casey Co, KY about 1818. I think the other George was born in NY in 1820. I believe Rita Millisdale had once told me that she found the name of "Forest or Foster" connected to George White. I am trying to find out which George. It was either from a cemetery listing with the name of "Foster or Forest" by his name. I am so sorry for the length of this. Just wanted to get as much info as possible in. George Washington White married Sarah Malinda Turner in 1851. He had children James born in 1848, Isabella born 1 OCT 1849, and Nancy born in 1850. 1860 census shows James and Nancy born in Indiana, and Isabella born in KY. Every document I have on my gr-grandmother, Isabella, says she was born in Casey Co. KY. I can't find George Washington White, James, Nancy, and Isabella on any 1850 census that I have access to. Maybe he was traveling then. Will be more brief in the future. Thanks for the replies and any further information anyone can give. This White line is connected to the Jones, McDaniel, Taylor, Jackson family---and many more! I can't find the Old Robinson Cemetery at the Crawford Co. website. I know it used to be there. Am I missing something? Is it the same as Palestine Cemetery? Shari

    3. If Rita Millisdale is out there, I need your assistance again! This is Shari. James Reynolds is mine. I believe you are the person who told me that the name of "Forest or Foster" appeared somewhere with the George White. My gr-gr-grandfather was George Washington White. He is buried in Palestine Cemetery. I believe there is another George White buried in Old Robinson Cemetery. Both were listed in CW with 47th IL US INF. Can you, Rita, or anyone else, tell me which George White has the Foster or Forest name with it. I do not know if it came with a listing in a book somewhere. I just received a tombstone picture of my George Washington White in Palestine Cemetery. No Foster or Forest appears on the tombstone--unless it has sunk into the ground. This is a BIG, BIG clue in sorting out which ancestor is mine. If there is only one George White, I have it made!!! My George Washington White died 19 APR 1895 (death certificate). The Foster is a clue as to mother. By the way, my Isabella White Reynolds, who married James Daniel Reynolds in Robinson, 13 JULY 1865, comes from the John White and Isabella McCracken line of Ireland (1710-1717 time frame). Since Ireland, Wales, Scotland was all inclusinve of ENG at the time, they show anywhere from IRE to ENG, to PA, VA, and KY. Thanks for any help on the Foster name connecting to the White name. Does anyone know a thing about one Solomon White? And was James Enos Reynolds buried in Palestine or Musgrave Cemetery? He was married to Mary Guyer. Shari Phillips Horton
