Surnames: Rhoads, Haddon, Wright Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Ue.2ADI/1340.1.1 Message Board Post: Burl: I apologize if I have asked you about this before. I am trying to confirm the burial site of Jonathan Parker Rhoads who died in Crawford County on 4 Jan 1867. He lived just south of New Hebron and, perhaps, at one time near Hardinville. An undocumented, old manuscript gives his burial place as New Hebron Cemetery; however, on a recent visit there I found no markers with the surname Rhoads. Either the source is incorrect, or the marker is no longer present (or never existed). If you happen to know of a Rhoads burial site in Sugar Creek Township, I would appreciate hearing about it. By the way, Jonathan had two wives - Margaret Jane Haddon Rhoads and Rachel Pamela Wright. There is a chance that they are buried with him. He also had two or more children that died in Crawford County (Isaac Newton Rhoads and Mary Parker Rhoads for sure), and I have no burial site for these either. Bob Tapscott Albuquerque

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Ue.2ADI/1340.1 Message Board Post: Betty - I am one of the Trustees over the Cemeterys of Honey Creek Township of which the Nuttall Cemetery is a part. I know where John Moore is buried. We have cleaned the West Side of this Cemetery and keep it sprayed with weed killer. I am in genealogy and would be glad to look and see if I can find a 1920 obituary for John Moore. It may take 2 or 3 weeks, if you so desire - please write me at blrp33jc@frtci.net. If I had your e-mail, I could send you a list of all the Moore's buried in Crawford County up to about 1970 with Tombstones. I also noticed that in the 1900 census John & Clara Moore had two girls and they were living in Licking Township which is in the N.E. Corner of Crawford County. Could John Moore have come from Indiana, as he was born in 1875 and I could not find him in the 1880 Illinois census. Burl Rich

    1. Wiley WINEMAN & Martha "Patsey" CARTER's children
    2. Mary Kathryn Kozy
    3. I was perusing my records this morning, and came across one of those mysteries that I've never solved. My ancestor, Wiley WINEMAN, was married to Martha "Patsey" CARTER on 13 Aug 1843 in Crawford Co., IL. In 1850, they are still in Crawford Co. with children Hannah, Polly A., Anna, and Mary E(llen). In 1860, however, they have removed to Cave In Rock P.O., Hardin Co., IL. There, he and Martha have children: Hannah, Polly A., Anna, Mary E., Jonathan (my ancestor), Joseph and Emaline. By 1870, Wiley and his daughter Emeline, are living back in Crawford Co., IL. No wife, no other children. His daughter, Ellen (Mary Ellen), age 18, appears to be living with Wiley's brother Joseph and his wife Hannah as a housekeeper. Where did Martha and the rest of the children go? A search of the 1870 and 1880 censuses (Heritage Quest and FamilySearch online databases) comes up with nothing for a Joseph WINEMAN born in 1855, as was the son of Wiley and Martha. The girls, obviously, are a little more difficult to trace, given that the older ones likely married between 1860 and 1870. But what of Martha? I have found no other marriage records in Crawford Co. for those girls in Crawford Co. as yet. Anyone out there researching these lines who might have any information on this family? I'd appreciate any help I could get in locating these children and Wiley's wife, Martha. I'm starting to wonder if there was some big epidemic that went through Hardin Co. and took the lives of most of Wiley's family, prompting him to come back to Crawford with his two remaining daughters. Any thoughts? Mary Kathryn Kozy mkozy@attglobal.net http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~marykozy/

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Ue.2ADI/1338.1 Message Board Post: The United States Coast and Geodetic Survey (USCGS) has thousands of maps with extensive information, including out-of-the-way cemeteries. For example in Pennsylvania it has for Chester County - 47 Cems., Philadelphia Co. - 35, Montgomery Co. - 63, Bucks Co. - 37, Berks Co. - 23, and Delaware Co. - 28. A cemetery in Ohio that was on a road that had been closed for about 30 years was located with a little help of a county map. The link to this service is http://www-nmd.usgs.gov/www/gnis/gnisform.html It may look difficult to use but is very simple if you print out and follow these steps: Bring up the page with the form and fill in this info: State Name, County, and Feature Type. That would be cemetery in this case. Click on "Send Query" and wait!! Sometime slow! It will list all of the recorded cemeteries in that county. Most important info is on right/Cemetery Name and on Left/the Map Name. Each map has a name and might not correspond to anything that makes sense to you, but just remember, "This is Government"! Pick out cemetery you want to check out location (that is all you will find) Click on name and Wait! Have a good currant county map handy, the roads have no names in most cases. It will open with a little box with the name etc., right below that will a link that says, "show feature location", click on this. WAIT! It will open up with a map of USA showing location of County. Right below it will appear the county with the cemetery indicated by a red circle or dot. If there are close towns it will show those names, but most roads have none. If you want to ZOOM In for a closer look, scroll down below map and click away. It shows only Harmony Cemetery in Crawford County, but if you just specify Illinois, it shows about six in other counties.
