During the Civil War, Frank traveled by covered wagon to Crawford County, Illinois with his father, mother and older brother, John. Several months after arriving at the new homestead, Frank's mother died. Shortly afterward, Dan remarried. The children of Dan's first marriage were John, Frank, Gilbert, Amon and Albert. About 1883, Frank married Mathilda Jane Graham in Crawford County, IL. Their children were Alice Elizabeth, Ola Ellen, Ethel Mary, Julia, and Luster George Newman. Frank and Jane lived in a log house south of Hardinville near the cemetery. The land for the Hardinville Cemetery was purchased from land they owned. During the time they lived in the log house they operated an apple butter press and a cider mill. Luster used to laugh about how as a child, it was his job to drive the horses that turned the mill that ground the apples. He was paid a nickle for each batch and he used to demand his nickle before he did the work. In 1906 they moved to their permanent residence in Hardinville, where for several years they ran a boarding house during the oil boom. After they closed the boarding house they farmed and raised cattle in partnership with their son, Luster George Newman and his wife. Luster married June Della Spencer in 1916. Their children are Gladys Marjorie Newman (Bishop) and Mary Mildred Newman (Wilcox). Luster and June purchased a home in Hardinville, next to his parents. The family continued to farm until 1935 when Frank died. Jane died in 1958 and both are buried in Hardinville Cemetery. Due to ill health, Luster and his wife and their two children, including their son-in-law, Thomas David Bishop, moved to Colorado in October, 1936. Luster died in Colrado Springs in 1969 and is buried at Memorial Gardens Mausoleum there. His wife and daughters continue to make Colrado Springs their home.

For the last couple months, I've been surfing the Rowe board and today I have new info that the name was actually ROE. Still, I am beginning with hardly any info. I am looking for the family of Roe who possibly lived in Crawford County, Illinois in the late 1800's and 1900's. Don't know the father and mother's name or the years they were born or where. I have been told there were maybe 12 children but I only know a few of the children's names and I don't know if I have them spelled right: Nancy (Lou) Louise Roe, Oma Roe, Opal Roe, (Nancy?) Nina Roe, Rae Roe... I know that Nancy Lou married a man with the last name of Carrell or Carroll and they lived in Casey, IL and near Willow Hill, IL. I know that Nina Roe married Homer Dunlap. I am looking for information for my mom, who was born to Nina and Homer. Nina remarried a man with the last name of Gregor (MacGregor? McGregor?). We have no info on the Roe family. Please write me at: utmostforhim@hotmail.com. Thanks!

Anyone familiar with JOHN C. WHITE, CO A. 185th OH INF---buried at Morea Cemetery, Crawford Co. IL? Does anyone on this list have an ancestor WHITE in Crawford Co. IL? Just can't make a connection to George Washington White, died in Palestine on 18 APR 1895---and buried in Palestine Cemetery, CW tombstone, 47 IL US INF, with other White surnames in Crawford Co. IL censuses. Maybe he had a married sister living in Crawford Co. According to the IL CW database, George was with the 47th out of Fulton Co. He does not show with Crawford Co, and might have consolidated with the regiment from Crawford Co. IL. Thanks, Shari
looking at the WWi draft card for that Chris Plunkett, it lists that he worked for the "James P_____ T Co.", the on screen form and print out are so bad that i can't make out the full name......anyone know? thanks. karen in CA
looking for information on a Chris or Christopher Plunkett born june 19 1882 in ohio, came to illinois close as i can figure between 1900 and 1905 to work in the oil fields. i have found him in 1910 and 1920 census but not after that. hard to read name of wife in the 2 census, 1910 looks like Lura and 1920 appears to be Ora, there is a Laura Plunkett in SSDI who died 1987, residence was Robinson, Crawford Co. Chris was my grandfathers uncle and he said Chris went to Robinson.....makes one assume Laura is Lura/Ora? in 1920 they had 1 year old daughter Virginia. Found WWI form for Chris and he went from Crawford co. apparently his sister, Rose Ann Plunkett Baker came to live with them, her death was reported 1939 in Gilespie. any help in learning more about his life in Illinois would be much appreciated. karen in CA

Marie was a deaf-mute and was the daughter of Eugene and Jessie KINNEY (sometime misspelled Kenney or Kenny or Kinnie). Cause of death was a botched apendectomy. I'm pretty sure she died in the first decade of the 1900s, but am at my wits' end trying to find any record of either her birth or her death. Would appreciate help, if anyone in Crawford County has clues about where I can find the information.

just a reminder to everyone. The Crawford Co. Gen. Society has all of it's cemetery tombstones gleaned and indexed. The indices are for sale on the web site. You can order the township needed, such as Robinson Township, look at all the hundreds of surnames that are found in cemeteries in that township, then for .50 per page you can order your surname from the gen. soc. If you find 5 surnames you need on one page, it's only .50, if you find you need 3 pages it's $1.50. Some complete cemetery tombstone readings are on line. With this money we put new material on the shelves of the genealogy room in the Robinson Library. Thanks Sue Jones, Pres.
I found the cemetery at the Crawford Co. USGEN website, listed as veteran's burials in Crawford Co. (on line records). Several cemeteries are listed here. This is only for the veterans. According to the IL Tombstone and Transcription Project, Old Robinson Cemetery is in need of volunteers for transcription. If I was not living in SC, I would be happy to do it! This spring, I will be helping with documenting old cemeteries here in Beaufort, SC. Also, I found some info in regard to Crawford Co. IL at IL Trails. The addy for it is http://iltrails.org/crawford There is listing for 1818 census---which covers the whole east half of the state since Crawford Co. was so very big. They also have residents of soldier's home. Shari
