Posted on: Crawford Co. Il Obituaries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Il/CrawfordObits/90 Surname: Hill, Stears ------------------------- Note: I have no connection to this family. I'm just posting an Obit that was sent to me by Barbara Dix who is transcribing old news articles for the website. A Pioneer Dead Dr. Hill died Christmas day at Martinsville, being aged over 80 years. He came to Crawford county from North Carolina with three brothers and a sister while a young man and entered a farm near Annapolis. In 1819 with his brother, Archie, and several persons from this county, he went to California, in the search of gold, going overland from St. Louis with ox teams which hauled their supplies, the women, children and sick, all of the men were walking. He was successful and on his return invested his wealth in land and made a fortune. His brother remained California and nothing was since heard of him. Doctor Hill was married to Emiline Stears in 1848 and fifteen children were born to them, four of whom survive, being Arthur Hill of Robinson, George and Grant of Sterling, Okla., and Milo of New Mexico. Most of the doctor's life was passed on the farm near Annapolis. When he came to Illinois his settlement was on the frontier with neighbors miles apart and the nearest market the Wabash River. The prairies were broken with oxen, and his life today would be regarded as hardship and privation. He moved to Martinsville in 1870 but he is well remembered by many of the older persons in this community.

I'm just posting an Obit that was sent to me by Barbara Dix who is transcribing old news articles for the website YOUNG LADY CALLED Emma Musgrave Summond Into Realms Beyond Emma Myrtle Musgrave, daughter of N. A. and Olive Musgrave was born November 1, 1906 and died June 27, 1926, aged 19 years, 7 months and 26 days. She was born and grew to young woman-hood in the home two and one half miles north of Hutsonville where her sweet and happy disposition radiated sunshine and gladness in the home. From her childhood she showed marks of keen intelligence and initiative in every part of her acticities and at all times a leader among her associates. She completed the Hutsonville High School course at an early age, graduating with high honors at the age 16. Later she clerked in Newlins Department store and later attended the Charleston State Normal and was teaching school at the Crow school in Clark County when her health begun failing and she was forced to resign. >From child-hood she attended Sunday School at Union Chapel where she was a leader among the children of that community, teaching the primary class in the Sunday School for several years.Emma was noble Christian young woman, shedding an influence for good in all of her relations of life, and the early call of her Master to come to her Eternal Home leaves us with sorrowing hearts, yet we bow in submission to His unerring will. One of the strong characteristics of Emma was her power to make people to love her and the extra large circle of her friends is a living testimony of her congenial personality. Last fall she attemped to teach school but was taken with pernicious anemia and was obliged to give up her school and since that time been very low. Despite her weakened condition, however, she has been able to be taken for rides in an automobile. She was at the home of her aunt Mrs. Mayme Prevo of Palestine the last three days of last week and was, they thought, some better. Late Sunday afternoon she expressed a strong desire to be taken home. Her wish was acceeded to but within an hour after reaching her home death came. When in good health she was active in church work and in the Union Sunday School, held in Union chapel which was built by her father, near her home. She leaves her Mother, two brothers Paul and Palmer and two sisters, Mary and Catherine all in the home to join her father to whom she was devoutly devoted and who preceded her only about sixteen months in death. Why the sun should set in the morning or the flowers wither just as they are blooming or the young life of promise should be called away are things we cannot now understand, but someday 'we shall know.' The funeral was held at the Union Chapel, two miles north of Hutsonville, Tuesday at 2:30 p. m., conducted by Rev. O. H. Young, pastor of the local M. E. Church after which interment was made in the Oak Grove Cemetery on Lamotte Prairie.
