I'm just posting an Obit that was sent to me by Barbara Dix who is transcribing old news articles for the website. All known information about this obituary including dates, locations, and newspaper are posted here, if known. CATHERINE LAYTON GOES TO REWARD. Catherine Cox was born on April 5th, 1862, and departed this life on July 3, 1930, being 68 years 2 months and 28 days. She was the daughter of William Morton and Emily Voorheis Cox. Catherine was the third child born in the family of nine children, Henry Tuttle, Kitchel M., Catherine, Alice, an infant son, Joel L., John Thomas, Lura and Arthur M. She spent her entire life in this neighborhood. At the age of 16 years she united with the Hutsonville Baptist Church under the pastorate of her uncle, John L. Cox. She found great enjoyment in church attendance until afflictions made it impossible to attend. On the 27th day of October, 1885, she was united in marriage to Armstead Layton. They began housekeeping at the present home of Mike King. Later they removed to her father's old homestead where she spent the balance of her life with her family of loved ones. To this marriage were born five children, Fern E., Edith E., Guy M., Charles A., and Arthur M. Fern preceded her mother, departing this life on June 23, 1906. Catherine was a most faithful companion and helpmate of her husband, a kind and loving mother and grandmother, and a friend and neighbor to all with whom she came in contact. She was woman of sterling qualities of character and will be greatly missed not only in her own home but in the entire community. While hearts are sorly wounded at her passing there is a boon in submission to the ways of Providence and a lifting of hearts to Him who said, "I am the resurrection and the life". She leaves to mourn their loss a husband, a daughter, three sons, seven grandchildren, a sister, four brothers, and a host of other relatives and friends. "Strength and honor were her clothing. Her children arise up and call her blessed." Funeral service was held at the home Sunday afternoon, being conducted by Rev. I. C. Tedford. Interment in the Hutsonville Cemetery.

We expect the sun to set in the evening, the flowers to fade after their blooming, and the leaves to fall at the coming of the frost, but that the sun should set ere it reaches its zenith, that the flowers should wither at the time of their budding, that the leaves should fall before the appointed season--this is the uncertainty of life. It was such with Fern Layton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Armstead Layton, who died Sunday at the age of 19 years and 10 months. For three years she had an invalid, being confined to her bed the greater part of the time. She was a member of the Baptist Church at this place, and died triumphant in the faith. Fern was a young lady who made a friend of every one she met, and to whom her untimely demise is the cause of much sorrow. To the parents, sister and brothers the sympathy of all is extended. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at the church, and more than twice as many people as could gain entrance were present. The sermon was preached by Elder John L. Cox, being an excellent discourse on the victory over death achieved by the Savior. Interment was made in the cemetery north of town. (1906?)

Cox of near Hutsonville Ill., Nov. 25th, 1875, had she lived until Nov. 25th next they would have celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary. To this union was born eight children, two of whom preceded her in death, Leslie Pearl, dying in infancy and Flossie Mildred, who died Dec. 1912, at the age of 26 years. Those surviving are as follows, Eld. Earnest N. Cox of Springfield, Ill., Mrs Alma Body of Watseka, Ill., Mrs. Pearl Skinner of Camden Mich., Eunice M. Morton and Gladys, at home. There are eight grandchildren. One sister,Mrs. Fannie Price of Vincennes, Ind., two brothers, George Mickey of Wakefield, Kan., and David C. of Cardwell Mo., a nephew, Homer L. Ritchie of Flat Rock, Ill.. Besides the husband and those all ready named she has a host of relatives and friends who had learned to love and respect her. She was converted and united with the Methodist Church early in life. Soon after her marriage she united with the Hutsonville Baptist Church under the minstry of her husband and was baptised by him into the fellowship of the same, she lived a true and faithful Christian life. Her husband being actively engaged in the ministry at the time of their marriage and for 35 years following their marriage, there rested upon her largely the responsibility of the home, she was always true to her trust giving to home and loved ones the service that only a faithful wife and mother could give. She was truly a preacher's helpmate. After those years of faithful service and seeing her children come to honor, she was stricken with Paralysis on April 21, 1925. Had she lived five days longer it would have been ten years of this suffering. No one could have been more patient and considerate than she in all her affliction. She had gradually failed during these years until she calmly fell asleep in death at her home in the presence of loved ones on April 16th, 1925, aged 69 years, 2 months and eight days. Funeral services were held at the Old Home Church Saturday, at 10 o'clock, conducted by Elder T. J. Wheeler of Robinson and assisted by Pastor, J. K. Aichele and Elder J. F. Pease. Burial in Hutsonville Cemetery.
William Hendricks died Oct. 31, 1947 in Palestine, IL. and his wife's name was Ella. Don't have her full name or any other particulars on this couple. Trying to obtain his obituary. Also, Wm. was found to have been in the S-War and would like to know which company he was in. Have a picture of him, in uniform, and his hat has two guns crossed and on top of one gun is 11 and on the bottom of the other gun is B. Also he was in the Army as stated by the Crawford website. So, would this company have originated by the IL. Spanish War? Could anyone help me with these questions? Georgia

Because of his faithfulness he was chosen to fill the most responsible places in the church, having filled the place of both elder and overseer. He met his untimely death last Thursday evening and while he never regained consciousness so he could tell his loved ones of his future prospects, yet the life he lived bears abundant testimony of his being safely housed with God.
