    1. [ILCRAWFO] REYNOLDS/WHITE/LIGHTFOOT
    2. shari horton
    3. Hi, It has been awhile so catching some people up on things. First, does anyone know if the name of Lightfoot is of Indian heritage? Next, George Washington White was born 1817, Casey Co. KY, to George C. and Mary Cravens Schenck (Shanks). George C. was also married to Janey Walker (KY), and Rachel Wilson (1800) KY. Mary was his first wife, Rachel the 2nd, and Janey Walker was his 3rd wife. George C's will for Mercer Co KY for March Court, 1824 shows Jane as his wife, Children were Andrew, Nathan, Patsy, George W. William, John, Eson/Eason, Ely/Eli, Ester/Hester, Sally, Polly, Catherine, Maney, and James White. The will was written 19 JAN 1824, and probated in March Court, 1824. So he died sometime after 19 Jan, 1824 and before the March Court (whenever that was). This is from Mercer Co. KY Will Records Will Bk 7 for 1818-1824. Executors were Thomas Rutchings and William Miner. Witnesses: Jaqueline A. Lewis, Thomas Thoman, and Jacob Johnson. Appraisement was in JUNE Court by Leonard Taylor, Henry Harper, and William Cobb. There has been confusion over one Melvina Melvina Ellis. Records from LDS shows she and George W. White married about 1850 and had a son, Jesse, born in 1857. George Washington White shows in the 1860 Crawford Census with his wife Sarah Malinda and children: James (1848), Isabel (1849), Nancy (1850), Jesse (1857), and Christina (1859). James G. and Nancy were born in IN, and Isabella (my great-grandmother) was born 1 OCT 1849. Her death certificate from DeWitt Co shows her birth year as 1846, but all the censuses shows that she was born in 1849. Her obit shows 1847. Many records show Sarah Malinda as Isabella's mother. The mother of James G., Nancy, and Isabella was CATHERINE PEARCE. She was born in 1817 in NC to Absalom and Diademia WEBB Pearce. George W. and Catherine (CATY) married in SEPT 1842, KY or OH, most likely OH. Now for the Melvina mystery. Melvina/Malvina/Malinda/Meloni Ellis was SARAH MALINDA TURNER. Sarah shows living with her parents in the 1850 Crawford Co. Census. She was 18. A descendent has informed me that Sarah Malinda was married before. It is unknown when, where, or which Ellis she married, but it was very short-lived. Sarah Malinda shows as "Meloni" at her son, Jesse's, wedding to Augusta Frederick in 1883. Also, another descendent who lives in Robinson informed me that the name of "Forest" does not appear on George W's tombstone at Palestine Cemetery. The birth year is also wrong. It says 1820. He died 18 APR 1895 in Palestine. He was 78 which confirms his birth year on his death certificate. Some records, such as his CW enlistment, shows he was born in 1820 in NY. Other records show he was born in 1817, KY and NC. His family appears in the early Casey Co. censuses, and his name is in his father's will of 1824. The Palestine Cemetery listing at the Crawford link shows George as having a stone that says 47 IL US INF. Inscribed below it is the word "Forest", yet the descendent said there is no such name there. I thought it to be George leaving us a message as to where he came from. I found that George C's ancestors were John and Elizabeth Forest White. If the forest is inscribed, it could mean he came from Germany, for example, many often had names that referred to occupations or where they lived. Does anyone know about this tombstone? I am looking for CATHERINE PEARCE also. George does not appear in Crawford Co until he marries Sarah Malinda in Crawford Co., 8 AUG 1851. Catherine may have died elsewhere. I "assume" this because George had the children and married very quickly after Nancy was born in 1850. Caty may have came to Crawford Co. with George. Many have always thought that there were 2 George Whites in Crawford Co--one born in NY in 1820. James George White, his son, was also in the 47 IL US INF, and is buried at Old Robinson Cemetery. Now for James Daniel Reynolds. He was the son of James and Eliza Spurling Reynolds. Eliza died in 1859 (?). James married Martha Pearson. In 1860 Crawford census James is shown with Martha and her children, plus John, age 4 born in KY. John was son of Eliza Spurling Reynolds. James' father was Charles Reynolds of Hart Co. KY. This line goes to Christopher Reynolds of Kent, ENG, and Gravesend, NY. My great-grandfather, James Daniel, married Isabella White (George W's) daughter, 13 JULY 1865 in Robinson. Have marriage certificate. I also have James Daniel's CW papers from National Archives. He and his brother, William Thomas, enlisted 21 DEC 1861, Crawford. William Thomas mustered out in 1864, and James was mustered out NOV 1863 from disability (at Louisville, KY). Children of James and Eliza Spurling were Mildred Reynolds DeWitt, William Thomas (married Jane Weatherman aka Letta Jane Brush), Emily Jane Reynolds Mann Henderson Baker, and James Daniel (b. 5 JULY 1844, Taylor Co. KY). James Daniel died 9 MAR 1913, Wapella, DeWitt Co. He is buried at Long Point Cemetery in Wapella. CW marker designates 60 IL US INF. Isabella White Reynolds died at Wapella on 9 JAN 1922. She is buried with their daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Reynolds Williamson and William Albert Williamson (my grandparents). Isabella and James Daniel Reynolds had children born in Robinson, Crawford Co. One infant died, William I. Reynolds, Stacy Ann Reynolds, James Earnen (Irwin), and Sarah Elizabeth Reynolds. William I. married Phebe Hobson, McLean Co. IL. Stacy Ann married George A Hume of Wapella, James Irwin married Addie Winchester and my father's aunt, Laura Belle Rousey Warner. I have the rest of the family line forward. I am sorry this is so long, but wanted to get this on as my husband is having surgery, so will be off line for about a week starting Thursday. Oh, I was wondering why James Daniel does not appear in the CW Honor Roll for Crawford Co. He used to be in the pages. Also note that one Charles Reynolds appears as William and Letta's son in census--not sure if it is 1850 or 1860. Charles was actually the son of Letta and William Brush. Charles took the name of Reynolds. To Rita Millisdale: HAVEN'T I COME A LONG WAY!!!! Thanks for the encouragement to stick it out. I AM SORRY THIS IS SO LONG, But I had to get it in before my husband's surgery. Nothing serious. Rotator Cuff. WOE IS ME! I will have him home for 2 months. Thanks to everyone for being patient with this. Shari
