William WELLS b. 1805 in VA married in 1827 in Floyd Co., KY to Sarah PRATER b. 1809 KY. William and Sarah migrated to Coles Co., IL in 1856 and 7 of their 14 children appear with them in the 1860 census for Coles. Next door to Wm and Sarah WELLS, in 1860 Coles Co., IL census living with the EVERSOLE family are two sons: ELIJAH C. (marries Missouri EUBANKS in Edgar in 1873 - has not found again after the Civil War - though he is listed in his father's estate in 1887) and JOHN JEFFERSON "Jeff" (marries Louisa Ellen CASKEY in Morgan Co., KY in 1861 - living in Garrett, Douglas Co., IL in 1880 - later migrates to MO). Another son, WILLIAM T. who married in 1857 in Edgar Co., IL to Sibby HANKS is living in Mason, Effingham Co., IL when he enlists for the Civil War, then found in 1870 in Douglas Co., IL - later migrates to MO. Children who were living at home in Coles Co., IL 1860 later marry as follows: David Bruton WELLS m. Mary Alice MOORE in 1869 in Coles Co., IL (Her father, John Godfrey MOORE d. 1872 is buried in Old Humboldt Cemetery, Coles Co., IL along with two small sons of David and Mary Alice WELLS.) Rebecca Ann WELLS m. John Wesley MURPHY in 1862 in Coles Co., IL Mary E. WELLS m. Phillip J. "Jack" BREEDEN in 1867 in Coles Co., IL (children marry WYETH, JOHNSON, FOSTER) Sarah E. WELLS m. Caleb GARRETT, Jr. in 1879 in Douglas Co., IL (daughter Luna marries William T. "Will" FOSTER.) Other sons "unaccounted for" are: James L. WELLS b. ca 1836 KY probably died before 1887 Elisha H. WELLS b. ca 1841 KY probably died before 1887 Benjamin F. WELLS b. ca 1843 in KY living in 1887 Daniel T. WELLS b. ca 1849 KY (Teacher) living in Douglas Co., IL 1887 I would really like to find the families of ANY of these children. I know the BREEDENS and GARRETTS and FOSTERS and JOHNSONS were living in the Coles/Douglas County areas in early 1900s-- as many are buried in the Union Cemetery in Coles Co., IL along with William (d. 1887) and Sarah (d. 1872) WELLS.
