I'm new to the list, researching the family of Elbert Miller, who was in Coles (then Clark) Co, IL with his father, Charles, as early as 1830. They moved off to Fayette Co and then Madison Co, IL but Elbert returned to Coles Co, where his brother Berville Miller had remained, to marry Mary Jane Bresee, the sister of Berville's wife. Mary Jane was the dau of William Bresee and Polly Stark, both originally of New York. William Bresee disappeared from the records about 1841 and his wife, Polly, died about 1846. Elbert and Mary Jane Miller moved to St. Louis soon after their marriage in 1842, but Elbert returned to Coles Co and is listed in the 1850 census living with his brother Berville.
