Pat ......In the event you don't recieve any help on your post, you might want to contact *Clinton County Historical Society* 1091 Franklin St. - Carlyle, IL. 62231. They will tell you who to reach for a marriage licence and that will tell you who the parents were. In case there are any other Boswell or Brookman researchers, this is the answer I sent to Pat earlier today. Hi, Patricia, I can give you what has been previously transcribed, but I'd recommend you double check whatever index you were using. I still can't access my CDs, and Carol is offline for a few days. There should be places of birth of their parents, etc. Perhaps you could try Baswell, etc. in the index you are looking at. 1870 Clinton County Census Clement Township Household 6-7 Boswell, James, 33, M, W, Farmer, $0 $500, IL Boswell, Mary E., 23, F, W, IL Boswell, John W., 11, M, W, At home, IL Boswell, William, Oct, M, W, IL Lorvery, Polly, 60, F, W, MO In the 1880 census, did you also see the entry for Sarah J. Boswell that was living with her grandmother, Mary A. Ells? (again, you should check those spellings - could be Ellis, etc.). I see the marriage for James and Mary in 1857 on http://www.sos.state.il.us/departments/archives/genealogy/forms/marrsrch.htm l There won't be any more info available on that marriage. Do you have their death dates? Did they die before 1910? I don't see them in http://www.sos.state.il.us/departments/archives/genealogy/forms/idphdeathsrc h.html which begins in 1916. The only Boswell death in a partial listing for an earlier time period that I have is: Page 188, # 1519, Boswell, Emma Lee, Age 2y6m11d, died 12 Aug 1887 from congestive chills, died in town of Huey in Clement Twp., buried Huston Grave Yard. I could check the microfilm at the Family History Center next week if you don't have their death dates. We might go up around Huey within the next month, I'll see if we can locate the grave yard, but usually the family type grave yards are in sad shape and the stones are in worse shape. Check back in a few months at http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilclint2/cemetery/clement/index.htm - we have it listed there as Hanston. Back to the 1860 census that Carol gave you last night, I see in a listing that there was Phebe Boswell, 20, Tenn. living in a neighbor's household. That neighbor is L. C. Davis, 28, farmer, Tenn, and his wife Mary, f, 26, Tenn in case that Mary could be a Boswell. That 1860 census also shows the following Brookmans - I'll give you a household # from this listing but it won't be that on the microfilm: # 628 - Brookman, Dena, f, 17, IL living in the Henry Baker, 30, Germ, and wife Elizabeth 20, Germ household. #685 - Brookman, Anna, f, 20, Germ, living in the John Rohr, 50, Germ, and Catharine, f, 52, Germ household. #1659 - Brookman, Lena, f, 13, Germ, living in the Dr. E H Klinekorte, 39, Germ and Catharine, 37, Germ household. #1459 - Brockman, Theresa, f, 6, IL, living with William Richter, 36, Germ and Anna, 32, Germ household. #1572 - Brookerman, Stephen, 38, Germ and Eliza, 32, Germ. I see a probate box # 159 for W. T. H. Boswell maybe around 1851 and one for Wm. Brookmann, #141, maybe around 1865. Do you need more info on how to get the info from there? The index is now computerized at the court house, so there could be more by now. Let me know what else I can look for.
