This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: THEENER THENOR THIENER THEINER Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ig.2ADE/75 Message Board Post: Dear Listers: Is there someone out there who could take a look at the 1870 Clinton Co US Census for me? On page 360, in dwelling 99-99, I believe that I have FINALLY located my great-grandfather. However, the census image on Ancestry.com is not clear enough for me to be certain. If this is, in fact, my great-grandfather the surname is spelled a bit differently than in other records that I have found. I realize that this is not an uncommon experience. The family that I am looking for is Ferdinand and Catherine/Katherine THEENER. This surname is variously spelled Theener, Thenor, and Theiner. There are probably even more variations that I have not found. My records show that: Ferdinand was born in Hanover 26 Sep 1837, so would have been age 32 at last birthday. This agrees with the 1870 census record. He is also found in the 1880 census, age 42. The surname in the 1880 census record is clearly "Theener". Catharine was born in Missouri 13 Aug 1845, so would have been age 25 at last birthday. The census records shows her age to be 23. Could the 3 on the census record be a 5? She is also found in the 1880 census, age 35. Wilhelmine "Mina" was born in Missouri 28 May 1866, so would have been age 4 just before the census was taken. This agrees with the census record. She is also found in the 1880 census, age 14. Magdalena "Lena" was born in Illinois 03 Feb 1868, so would have been age 2 at last birthday. This agrees with the census record. She is also found in the 1880 census, age 12. Caroline was born in Illinois 04 Mar 1870, so would have been age 3 months when the census was taken. This agrees with the census record. She is also found in the 1880 census, age 10. The 1880 census for this family also lists three children who were born after 1870. Please excuse my lengthy query. I am only trying to provide the information that leads me to believe that the 1870 Ferdinand and Catharine above are indeed my ancestors. Sincerely, Robert Schroeder
