    1. [ILCLINTON] Miranda BANKSTON m. David SMITH, 1848?
    2. Ellen Blackstone
    3. Hello, Clinton IL list! In September, 2000, FamilySearch.org had a listing for "Moranda BANKSON" marrying in 1848 in "<Clinton>, Dewitt, Illinois." That entry is now missing from that web site. (It might have been from the IGI, the International Genealogical Index/NA.) I would very much like to find some record of this marriage. Miranda's father, Andrew James Bankston (or Bankson) had moved to Dubuque County, Iowa / owning land also in Wisconsin, by 1838, but perhaps Miranda (many different spellings for her name--) stayed behind? ... maybe living with a sister?... I'm trying to figure why she would be married in IL in 1848 if her father had left the state ten or more years earlier. Likewise, David Smith's brothers moved to Iowa / Wisconsin, but his parents, John and Gertrude Gilpin Smith, stayed behind, and died in Lebanon, IL. Anybody there have any connections to this family? Any ideas? Will be happy to share what I know. Thanks! EB ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ellen Blackstone Everything connects.... 1. [ILCLINTON] BANKSTON m. David SMITH, 1848?

    3. Hi, Ellen, Hope some Bankson/Bankston researchers will respond, too. Your IGI note says they were married in the town of Clinton in DeWitt County. Clinton County had Banksons here, and we are close to Lebanon. The two Clintons are often confused. No matter which county it was, the Illinois Marriage data base is at http://www.sos.state.il.us/GenealogyMWeb/marrsrch.html . I recommend that you only enter Smith in the groom block and just enter Banks in the bride block and the computer will return all spellings that begin with that shorter spelling. Not much turns up, there is one in Clinton County, but not the one you are looking for. It's possible they got married here but the licenses just didn't get recorded. So far no one has shown us proof that something is missing from the court house records, but it is possible. It's also possible that they didn't get married in IL but did get married in IA. I have no idea why it was once listed in IGI but not now. Perhaps you could go into a Family History center near you and ask them. Did you check both spellings? ----- Original Message ----- From: Ellen Blackstone To: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, December 06, 2003 9:06 PM Subject: [ILCLINTON] Miranda BANKSTON m.
