Hi, Pam, The days of the freebies are gone. Dog gone it. You have several ways to chose from now: The State of Illinois at http://www2.sos.state.il.us/GenealogyMWeb/refform.html If I'm reading it correctly, looks like the pricing has changed again effective 1 Jul 2003. Maybe it's free for Illinois residents again and maybe it's $10 for two certificates for non-Illnois residents. Good time to have Illinois relatives. Be sure to read that "When may I expect a response to my request". They are now filling August 2002 requests. They only have info after 1916 when the laws changed. If you don't want to wait a year, and if the death date is between 1878 and 1916, and if you only want a copy of the death register pages, you could try the IRAD at http://www.sos.state.il.us/departments/archives/irad/siumap.html Those same death registers have been microfilmed by the Church of Later Day Saints and can be rented at any Family History Center worldwide. There is a copy at the O'Fallon, IL FHC. http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/fhlcatalog/supermainframeset.asp?dis play=topicdetails&subject=384062&subject_disp=Illinois,_Clinton_-_Vital_reco rds&columns=*,180,0 If that doesn't work, let me know. The registers do not normally list parents' names. If you only want the register information, and if there are just a couple of them, and if they are in the FHC microfilm range, I could look that information up for you on my next trip to the FHC. You can get a copy of the death certificate, or a copy of the register from the Clinton County Clerk in Carlyle http://www.clintonco.org/clerk_county.htm and then go to Genealogy. We have the unproofed index of the 1877 to 1903 registers at http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilclint2/deathrec/index.htm There are a couple of people who make weekly trips to the Springfield archives and offer to look up the info for you. Cost ranges from $3 to $8 for their service. I don't have an email address right now, but if you want one, just ask. We'll update our web page to reflect this. Dorothy, Hi. Could you kindly post the phone number for the O'Fallon FHC? I know that sometimes the summer hours change. I would like to visit there perhaps on Aug.1. Thank you! Their number is 618-632-0210. Usually they are opened from 9 to 3 and from 6 to 9 on Tue, Wed & Thur. and from 10 to 2 on Sat. They are closed on Fridays, guess that takes care of your Aug 1. Here's an old copy-and-paste of the Clinton County films that are there (more or less) but it's still reasonably accurate: ====================== Since we can't look at the records in the Carlyle Court House for the time being, the following rolls of microfilm are at the O'Fallon, Illinois Family History Center "indefinitely". All can also be ordered from Salt Lake City thru any FHC in the world. There is more here than we'll be able to see in Carlyle even when the law gets changed. ** CCHS/BCGS transcribed, copies in Carlyle Library and in CCHS. ***Included in Illinois Marriage Data Base online (as of 2 Apr 2001) Birth index (a) 1877-1902 & (b) index 1903-1915 and Births (c) Bk 1 -1877-1884 Film # 1007029 Births - Volumes 2 and 3 - 1884 to 1903 - Film # 1007030.
