    3. Have you been able to find Lucinda Jane in the 1860 census? I don't see her or most of her family listed in the Clinton County 1860. The Crawford families that are listed are: (1) William H., 38, Ga, Elizabeth, Nancy, f, 18, Ga, John. and (2) Thomas, 24, IL, E. M. (male) 21, Sarah, 19, Samantha 2, John, 5. Based on the 1850 census, Thomas could be Lucinda's brother. Marriage licenses in those days did not include names of parents. Have you found a death certificate for Lucinda Jane? Do you know what church they might have attended? There is a probate box in the Carlyle Court House, Circuit Clerk's office, http://www.clintonco.org/circuit_clerk.htm for Zach Crawford, E. Crawford, Executor. There is no telling what might be inside that envelope - you could always hope for a will or an estate settlement which lists children. I don't know that this is the correct Zach Crawford, but it might be worth a try. The man listed after him died in 1849, but "your" Zach was in the 1850 census. There are no dates on my old listing so I can't confirm that it is chronological. There are also probate boxes for Alexander Crawford of whom Z. Crawford was the executor, (this is listed before the one above) and for Jas. A. or Jos. A. Crawford for whom J. B. Williams was executor, and for E. M. Crawford for whom Thomas J. Crawford was the executor. Allow several hours for browsing through at least 4 probate boxes (they are just envelopes). Copies are 50 cents per page. Someone in that office will help you check the computer to see if there are any other Crawfords listed. Be sure to ask for all of them at one time so they don't have to make 2 trips down to the basement to the storage area. The 1850 Census was as of 1 June, so Lucinda Jane would have been 7, but it would not be unusual to have a frazzled respondent give a wrong age unintentionally. With the children listed in such perfect stair-steps, it would appear to be safe that this Lucinda is the daughter of this Zachariah. You could get a copy of the original census page if that would help fill your need for additional documentation. Let me know privately if you want more info on probate boxes, etc. Dorothy ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: Friday, October 10, 2003 9:16 PM Subject: [ILCLINTON] Lucinda Jane Crawford This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Crawford Welch Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/ig.2ADE/173 Message Board Post: My grandmother's name is Maude Viola Welch. She was born Sep 1, 1871 in Centraila, Marion County, Illinois. Her parents are Charles and Lucinda Jane Crawford Welch. They were married Dec 13, 1860 in Clinton County, Illinois. Lucinda Jane Crawford was born in April 1843 in Illinois. The 1850 census District 68 of Clinton County, Illinois shows a Lucinda Crawford age 6, daughter of Zachariah Crawford. I need some additional evidence that shows that my great-grandmother, Lucinda Jane Crawford, may be the daughter of Zachariah Crawford. ============================== To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237
