This is to officially announce the online (URL above) list of people who were buried in the Bethlehem Cemetery located at Swtizer and Bittner in Baden, Missouri before those graves were moved to the New Bethlehem Cemetery in North St. Louis County some time in the 1960s. The current cemetery, open to anyone, is still owned by the Bethlehem Lutheran Church on Salisbury in St. Louis. Thank you to: Mr. Mike Odle, the Superintendent of Bethlehem Cemetery who uncovered these wonderful ledger book treasures. Pastor John Schmidtke of Bethlehem Lutheran Church who secured permission from the church to put these records online. Dave Lossos for putting the list on his website. There is no introduction on Dave's site just yet so here is a little explanation about the database: It contains over 2000 names which were garnered from 4 ledger books most of which are falling apart. The earliest death date is Jan 1857. Most of these records were written in German in the old style of writing. There were three ledger books that were identical in appearance and probably dated back to the 1870s. The 3 identical books are listed as I, II and SG for Single Grave. The fourth ledger book, called C, is from 1928 when someone copied ledger books I and II into it. There were inconsistencies between the Copied ledger and the older originals so I used the older information. Many of the entries are just names listed under the lot owner's name. The key for the Source of each entry might help you get an idea of the time frame.
