Union Banner, Carlyle, IL, Oct 1, 2003, Page 2a/Col 5-6 Loretta M. Stroot, 82 Loretta M. "Etta" Stroot, 82, of Aviston, died Thursday, Sept. 25th, 2003, at Countryside Manor in Aviston. She was born on March 22nd, 1921, in Albers, the daughter of Fred and Eugenic Dulle Markus, and they preceded her in death. On May 12th, 1949, at St. Bernard Church in Albers, she married Gregory H. Stroot, and he preceded her in death on January 11th, 2001. Surviving is a son, James Stroot of Aviston, and a daughter, Carolyn Timmons of Albers; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Sgt. Jerome Stroot; one sister, Bernice Gerling, and one brother, Andrew Markus. Mrs. Stroot was a member of St. Francis Parish in Aviston and the American Legion Post 1239 Auxiliary. She was also a goldstar mother. Loretta was a homemaker and also worked at local restaurants and assisted with American Legion dinners and weddings. Funeral Mass was conducted on Monday, Sept. 29th, at 10 a.m. at St. Francis Church in Aviston, with Rev. Dan Friedman officiating. Interment was in St. Francis Cemetery in Aviston. Visitation was at Hempen Funeral Home in Aviston.
