Dorothy, thanks. Yes it is definetly the Godell Cemetery. I probably never saw the Yingst Cemetery but I do recognize some of the family names buried there. phil Dorothy Falk <dorothyf@ameritech.net> wrote: Phil: There are two Beaver Creek Baptist Cemeteries online (one is now called the Yingst) and the Godell Cemetery, sounds like the one you're speaking of. http://clinton.ilgenweb.net/cemetery/wheatfield/index.htm -----Original Message----- From: ilclinto-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:ilclinto-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Phil Entrekin Sent: Thursday, June 05, 2008 5:51 PM To: ilclinto@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [ILCLINTO] Beaver Creek Baptist Cemetery I have great respect for the Sohn family and the way they have cared for that cemetery even though they did not know any of the people buried there. The second cemetery is a disaster area as someone plowed up the graves in the course of their farming. The lack of human respect for the deceased is an unconscionable act to me and it was deliberate. Some of the headstones were destroyed but some are still readable. Some other info I just remembered I have - a Helen Strotheidt (now deceased) had done a survey of that cemetery before it was destroyed in the 1960s. I do not know if the local historical society has that info or not. I do not have a copy of it. Phil RMo9871662@aol.com wrote: Thanks so much. George Sohn is a distant relative; I went to school with his wife's son's. George's twin sister was my 6th grade teacher. I moved out of state several years ago. You need to find Emerald Rd going West off of hwy 127 going North from Carlyle. Both cemeteries will be on your left. The first one on the Sohn Farm should be easy to find as the farm was well marked. Just past the house, to the west is the cemetery with only about 10 graves and most of them are my family (Entrekin). If you continue west on Emerald Rd you will cross Beaver Creek (not far from Sohn's Farm) and take the next driveway left and up a hill. At the top of the hill is a house (you will be on private property) and the cemetery is behind the house. Doubt if you will find much as the cemetery was plowed up and most of the headstones destroyed. There are however, several headstones just laying around the area so you might find something. I don't see Emerald Road on http://clinton.ilgenweb.net/maps/map2006.htm (probably Road # 9 or 17) but bet you'll be able to find a more detailed map online. We're trying to find a way to get the Trenton Cemetery, with ten Rasch, online by next week. Stay tuned. -----Original Message----- From: ilclinto-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:ilclinto-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of RMo9871662@aol.com Sent: Thursday, June 05, 2008 2:27 PM To: ilclinto@rootsweb.com Subject: [ILCLINTO] Beaver Creek Baptist Cemetery Can anyone tell me how to get to the Beaver Creek Baptist Cemetery, Wheatfield Twp., Clinton County, from Route 127 going north from the high school? It has been years since I was back there in this area. My great-great grandfather Ernst Rasch and his daughter are buried there and I would like to photograph their tombstones. I was always told he was buried on the Sohn farm. Regina **************Get trade secrets for amazing burgers. Watch "Cooking with Tyler Florence" on AOL Food.
