Union Banner, Carlyle, IL, Aug 27, 2003, Page 2a/Col 1-2 Robert W. Steinmann, 78 Robert W. Steinmann, 78, of Carlyle, died Wednesday, Aug. 20th, 2003, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. He was born on May 9th, 1925, in St. Louis, Mo., the son of Joseph and Mabel Beckemeyer Steinmann. On Oct. 31st, 1945, in Lincoln, Neb., he married Evelyn Wuebbels; and she survives in Carlyle. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, James J. Steinmann of Damiansville and Kenneth Steinmann of Missoula, MT; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Steinmann and mother and step father, Leonard and Mabel Simms. Mr. Steinmann lived in Carlyle all his life. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in England with the Eighth Air Force in the Army Air Corps. After his service, Robert worked in the Civil Engineering division at Scott Air Force Base until his retirement in 1982. After his retirement, Mr. Steinmann was a representative for Metropolitan Insurance in Carlyle and enjoyed wintering in the Rio Grande Valley. Robert was a member of St. Mary's Church in Carlyle. A Mass of Resurrection was celebrated on Monday. Aug. 25th. at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Carlyle, with Fr. George Mauck officiating. Interment followed with military honors at St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation was at Zieren Day Funeral Home in Carlyle.
