Union Banner, Carlyle, IL, Oct 1, 1997, Page 2/Col 1 Lela Matheny, 85 Mrs. Lela M. Matheny of Fair Oaks Nursing Home in Greenville died Friday, Sept. 26th, 1997, at Utlaut Memorial Hospital in Greenville. She was 85 years old. Born in Fayette county on Oct. 22nd, 1911, she was a daughter of John H. and Elsie M. Baldwin Barth. On April 20th, 1929, in Vandalia, she married Wesley Matheny. He died Oct. 4th, 1981. Survivors include one son, Ernest E. Matheny of Millingston, Tenn.; one daughter, Mrs. Irma Langham of rural Keyesport; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and one brother, Melvin R. Barth of Bethalto. She was preceded in death by a brother, Gussie Barth, and sister, Lorena Allen. Mrs. Matheny and her husband had owned and operated Matheny General Merchandise in Keyesport. She had been Keyesport village treasurer for 30 years and Tamalco township trustee for 20 years. Rev. Bill Bays officiated at services held at Schildknecht and Young Funeral Home in Greenville at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 29th. Burial followed in Payne cemetery in rural Keyesport.
