Union Banner, Carlyle, IL, Oct 1, 1997, Page 2/Col 3 Henry Grawe, 96 Life-long Breese resident Henry "Hank" Grawe died at Caring First Nursing Home in Breese on Sunday, Sept. 28th, 1997, at the age of 96 years. Born in Breese on May 13th, 1901, he was a son of Frank and Mary Ess Grawe. On Feb. 20th, 1941, in Carlyle, he married Theresa A. Kleber, and she survives. In addition to his widow, survivors include two sons, Frank and Tom Grawe of Breese; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Huelsmann of Beaver Prairie and Mrs. Agnes Wellen of Highland; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and one brother, John Graves of Belleville. He was preceded in death by one brother, Ben Grawe, and two sisters, Ann Fischer and "Minn" Haar. Mr. Grawe had been owner-oeprator [sic] of Grawe and Son Southside Grocery for 50 years, before retiring in 1970. He was a member of St. Augustine's Church in Breese, Holy Name Society of the church, and Catholic Fraternal Life. His funeral was held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) at St. Augustine's Church. Rev. Melvin Haas officiated with burial in St. Dominic's cemetery in Breese. Visitation was at the Hempen Funeral Home in Breese.
