Welling died at Countryside Manor Nursing Home in Aviston on Feb. 3rd, 1999, at the age of 88 years. A son of Bernard and Johanna Kluempka Welling, he was born in Aviston on Nov. 6th, 1910. On May 21st, 1941, in St. Louis, he married Hedwig "Hattie" Schrage, and she survives. Additional survivors include four daughters, Shirley Rosbel of St. Charles, Mo., Mary Lee Schmidt of Wichita, Kans., Karen Welling of Breese and Patricia Jaeger of Richardson, Tex.; two sons, Richard Welling of Trenton and Marcellus Welling of Edgewater, Mo.; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Leon Welling; two brothers, Louis and Bernard Welling and one sister, Regina Kuhl. Mr. Welling was the retired owner of Welling Truck Service and also as custodian at Aviston Elementary School. He had been a volunteer fireman in Aviston for 30 years. A member of St. Francis Church in Aviston, his funeral was held there at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 6th, with Rev. Dan Friedman officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The Brefeld Funeral Home in Aviston was in charge of arrangements.
