Union Banner, Carlyle, IL, Sep 8, 2004, Page 2a/Col 2-3 John Walker Johnson, Jr., 67 John Walker Johnson, Jr., 67, of Carlyle died Wednesday, Sept. 1st, 2004, in Germantown. He was born May 26th, 1937, in Breese, the son of John Walker and Dorothy M. Rippy Johnson, Sr., and they preceded him in death. He married Phyllis M. Clouse on Oct. 24th, 1964, in Ohio City, Ohio, and she preceded him in death June 20th, 2004. Surviving is a son, Darin Johnson of Germantown; a daughter, Diana Hughes of Carlyle; two grandchildren; and a sister, Linda Nehrt. He was preceded in death by a brother, Terrance Neil Johnson. He was an estimator for the Buckeye Pipeline Company in Ohio City. He spent 21 years with Bruemmer Construction Company in Carlyle. He also worked for Atlas Glass in Mt. Vernon and Granite City Fence before retiring seven years ago. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Carlyle. He was also a member and past master and secretary of Scott Lodge #79 AF & AM in Carlyle. He was a member of Ainad Shrine Temple in East St. Louis and served on the hospital committee, Scottish Rite Consistory, Valley of Southern Illinois at Belleville and the Sword of Bunker Hill at Centralia. He served in the Illinois National Guard and enjoyed gardening, lawn and yard work. A funeral service was held Saturday, Sept. 4th, at 11 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Carlyle. Burial was in Carlyle Cemetery. Visitation was at Zieren Day Funeral Home in Carlyle.
