PBS to Air "Germans in America" * * * * * * Hello G-SIG participants, The following memo was just received from GAHS President, Lansing Hecker: We are grateful to him for informing us about this broadcast. Hermann Eisele G-SIG Associate Leader ===================== Dear Friends, For those of you who have not heard the news, the "Germans in America" four-part television mini-series will debut Sunday, 06 April at 12:00 noon on KETC-TV (Channel 9). The series recounts the saga of German emigration to the United States using gripping stories about naive settlers and successful farmers, about devout free-thinkers and political refugees, about the heyday of the German-language press in America, and about the founders of industrial dynasties in the new homeland. The four parts of the documentary are Program 1: Into the Promised Land Program 2: The Price of Freedom Program 3: Little Germanies Program 4: A People Disappears "Into the Promised Land" relates the story of the Muenks family, who left their home near Düsseldorf some 150 years ago for America's "German" belt, settling in Loose Creek, Missouri.
