Mahlandt, 95, of Carlyle, entered into rest on Monday, January 28, 2008, at Carlyle Healthcare Center in Carlyle. He was born in Irishtown Township on November 17, 1912, a son of Henry and Ella (Frey) Mahlandt. He married Lexie Knutt in Waterloo on March 28, 1936, and she preceded him in death on December 10, 1993. He is survived by a daughter, Beverly Gorman and husband David of Carlyle; two grandsons, Bryan Gorman and wife Pat of Godfrey and David Gorman and wife Lisa of Mascoutah; one granddaughter, Lynn Thorson and husband Paul of Hillsboro, Wisc.; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister. Lorraine Johnson of Carlyle. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife; two sisters, Mamie Chandler and her husband Ed and Mabel Van Dorn and her husband Ed; two brothers, Roy and Elmer Mahlandt and his wife Gladys. He worked at Moran Shoe Company for nine years and at General Steel in Granite City for 29 years. He was also the custodian of Carlyle Cemetery for 19 years. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 1, at Zieren Day Funeral Home in Carlyle, with Fr. George Mauck, officiating. Burial will follow in McKendree Chapel Cemetery in Keyesport. Friends may call at Zieren Day Funeral Home on Thursday from 4 until 8 p.m., and Friday from 8 a.m. until service time.
