Union Banner, Carlyle, IL, Mar 16, 2005, Page 2a/Col 4 Agnes D. Trame, 92 Agnes D. Trame, 92, of Bartelso died Sunday, March 13th, 2005, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville. She was born Sept. 13th, 1912, in Bartelso, the daughter of Bernard and Catherine Loepker Gebke, and they preceded her in death. She married Fred Trame on April 21st, 1937, at St. Cecilia's Church in Bartelso and he preceded her in death on March 5th, 1987. Surviving are three daughters, Dolores "Girlie" Rickhoff and Jenny Vogel, both of Bartelso, and Marion Krebs of Breese; 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, August and Paul Trame, a great-granddaughter, Kayla Dall, five brothers, John, Ben, Isadore, Frank, and Tony Gebke; and six sisters, Louise Junker, Regina Bach, Catherine Zika, Margaret Wilken, Mary Kreke and Josephine Gebke. Trame was a retired cook from Bartelso Grade School, a member of St. Cecilia's Church and Alter Sodality and past president. Services were held today, March 16th, at 2 p.m. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church with Father Henry Fischer officiating. Burial followed at St. Cecilia's Cemetery. Moss Funeral Home in Germantown handled the arrangements. Union Banner, Carlyle, IL, Apr 10, 2002, Page 2a/Col 1-2 Beulah Wetzel, 73 Graveside services were held at St. Cecilia's cemetery in Bartelso on Monday, April 8th, for Mrs. Beulah Wetzel, 73, of Belleville. Rev. Henry Fischer officiated. Mrs. Wetzel, of Belleville, and formerly of New Jersey, died at Calvin Johnson Nursing Home in Belleville on Thursday, April 4th, 2002. Born in Scranton, Penn., on March 1st, 1929, she was a daughter of Michael and Clara Gray. She married Robert Beebe. He died Jan. 24th, 1971. On Oct. 31st, 1983, she married George Wetzel. He died March 3rd, 1977. A daughter, Catherine Beebe, of Fairview Heights, survives. Arrangements were handled by the Moss Funeral Home in Breese. Union Banner, Carlyle, IL, Feb 16, 2005, Page 2a/Col 3 Ann Kauling, 92 Ann Kauling, 92, of Beckemeyer died Thursday, Feb. 10th, 2005, at the Carlyle Healthcare Center. She was born March 9th, 1912, in Wade Township, Clinton County, the daughter of Henry and Barbara Fockes Kampwerth, and they preceded her in death. She married Joseph H. Kauling on June 1st, 1938, at St. Anthony Church, Beckemeyer, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 7th, 1973. Surviving is a son, Paul Kauling of Carlyle; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Kevin and Robert Kauling; a granddaughter, Susie Kauling; brothers, Bernard, Herman and Alphonse Kampwerth; and sisters, Sr. Henrice P.H.J.C., Sr. Clarasita P.H.J.C., Gertrude Langhauser and Agnes Langhauser. Kauling worked with her husband at Kauling Hardware in Beckemeyer and retired from the Carlyle Healthcare Center. She was a member of St. Anthony Church in Beckemeyer and St. Ann's Altar Sodality. She enjoyed gardening, pinochle and making quilts and crocheting. Ann was the last child living of the "Kampwerth 5" who came from Germany-her father and aunt and uncles. A mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, Feb. 14th, at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony Church in Beckemeyer, with Father Chuck Tuttle and Deacon Bob Lippert officiating. Interment followed at St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation was at Frerker Funeral Home in Carlyle.

Union Banner, Carlyle, IL, Feb 16, 2005, Page 2a/Col 2-3 Lester M. Troutt, 88 Lester M. Troutt, 88, of Sandoval died Saturday, Feb. 12th, 2005, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. He was born Nov. 9th, 1916, in Sandoval, the son of Charles and Lena M Hoffman Troutt, and they preceded him in death. He married Erma Jean Heinrich on March 8th, 1941, in St. Louis, Mo. and she preceded him in death on Jan. 1st, 2004. Survivors include two daughters, Marsha Reckling of Shattuc and Sandra Turner of Willits, Calf.; and four grandchildren and seven grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Dean Troutt of Sandoval; and a sister, Fern Hester of Shattuc. Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, J. Henry Troutt. Troutt lived in Sandoval all his life. He worked for Radmore & Bill Rick Ford in Centralia for 30 years and then Wiegman Ford in Carlyle for 23 years as service manager retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Sandoval United Methodist Church, Centralia Moose Lodge and a former Centralia League Bowler. He was a W.W. 2 Army Veteran Serving in the Asiatic & Pacific Campaign, the Liberation of the Philippines and was awarded two Bronze stars. He enjoyed sports and spending time with his family. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 16th, at 10 a.m. from the Day Funeral Home in Sandoval with Rev. Clayton Coffey officiating. Burial will be held in Hillcrest Cemetery in rural Centralia. Union Banner, Carlyle, IL, Jun 15, 2005, Page 2a/Col 1-2 Kathryn Harpstrite, 90 Kathryn Ann Harpstrite, 90, of St. Louis, Mo., died on Saturday. June 11th, 2005, at Aviston Countryside Manor. Born on the family farm south of Trenton on June 29th, 1914, she was the daughter of Edward and Anna Pletscher Harpstrite, and they preceded her in death. Survivors include one brother, John Wesley Harpstrite of Boerne, Texas. She also was preceded in death by three sisters, Mabel Kuhn, Clara Roper and Gertrude Guthrie; three brothers, Richard Harpstrite, Harvey Harpstrite and Herbert Harpstrite. A member of Grace United Methodist Church in St. Louis, she had attended business school in St. Louis and worked in the offices of Stix, Baer and Fuller, and was office manager of Thomas Enterprises. After her retirement, she was active with her church and the church's food pantry. She enjoyed traveling and being the family historian. Visitation was on Monday, June 13th at the First United Methodist Church in Trenton and was followed by the funeral services at 3 p.m. at the church, with the Rev. Debbie Melzer officiating. Burial was in Trenton Cemetery. Moss Funeral Home handled the arrangements. "Gus" Vahlkamp, 89, of Sun Lakes, Ariz., and formerly of Carlyle, died on Thursday, Oct. 20th, 2005, at Dobson Hospice Home in Chandler, Ariz., with his family by his side. Born on Nov. 25th, 1915, in Carlyle, he was the son of Stephen and Catherine Vahlkamp. On Sept. 4th, 1940, he married Alida Marcham at St Mary's Church in Carlyle. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Sharon Miller and Betsy Mensing of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Gayle Thompson of Gilbert, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Albert, John, Ben and Fred Vahlkamp; and three sisters, Mame, Betty and Agnes. A World War II Army veteran and retired co-owner of Carlyle Lumber and Supply, he was a life member of the Carlyle Knights of Columbus Council 1382 and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3523. The Rev. Father Pierre Hissey will preside at a memorial mass on Friday, Oct. 28th, at St. Steven's Church in Sun Lakes. Burial will follow in the Valley of the Sun Memorial Park, Chandler, Ariz. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014 or to the charity of the donor's choice. Born on Jan. 29th, 1925, in Carlyle, she was the daugther of Edward A. and Bertha Mae Cohoon Taylor. Survivors include one daughter, Toby Tipton of Canon City, Colo.; five grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Kues was preceded in death by one daughter, Coleen Lawhorn; three grandchildren, William Norman III, Jeffrey Norman and Michelle Lynn Norman Laux; nine brothers and sisters, Mabel Givens, Mildred Easton, Flossie Plew, Lucille Taylor, Buddy Taylor, Connie Taylor, Alvin Taylor, Eugene Taylor and Tilford Taylor. She had lived in Carlyle since 1970 and worked as a cook. No services are scheduled, but memorials can be made to the Special Olympics and will be received by Zieren Day Funeral Home in Carlyle. Union Banner, Carlyle, IL, Mar 16, 2005, Page 2a/Col 1 Leo A. Grasher, 84 Leo A. Grasher, 84, of Sandoval, died Saturday, March 12th, 2005. He was born June 25th, 1920, in Sandoval, the son of Frank and Cecila Thomas Grasher and they preceded him in death. He married Helen Schnitzmeyer on Feb. 20th, 1943, in Sandoval and she survives. Hohrein is survived by two sons, Roger Grasher of Odin and Thomas Grasher of Desoto; two daughters, Judi Jennetten of Libertyville and Julie Payne of Patoka; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Joe Grasher of Centralia; and two sisters, Dorothy Stevenson of Salem and Josephine Rohner of Sandoval. He was preceded in death by a brother, Adolph Grasher and three sisters, Hazel Maxine Grasher, Glendola Auberry and Dolores Greek. Grasher lived his entire life in the Sandoval area. He was a retired dairy farmer, a devoted Meridian Township supervisor for eight years, a lifelong member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church and a member of the Elks Club of Centralia. He was an avid gardener and fisherman, and he often shared his bounty of garden and fish with family and friends. Services were held Tuesday, March 14th, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Chuch with Father Patrick Peter officiating. Burial was held at St. Lawrence Church Cemetery in Sandoval. Day Funeral Home in Sandoval handled the arrangements.
