Carol has now loaded the Clinton County marriages online at http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilclint2/marriages/index.htm . All of the available information for 1825 through 1877 is online, primarily just names but at least we have most of those. The index for the marriages from 1878 (when they began keeping track of parents, etc.) through 1920 are loaded. Some of these were online previously, some were on Laura's temporary sight. All are, hopefully, also in the Illinois State database. You will be able to search for alternate spellings. There is also a partial Officiates list that might help with locations, do let us know about locations for those not pinpointed yet. She has also updated: Biographies http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilclint2/bios/index.htm Obituaries http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilclint2/obituary/index.htm Wills http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilclint2/clintwills/index.htm And added an 1892 Railroad Map http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilclint2/maps/RRmap.htm Keep bio's, obits and wills coming! Bio's can be ones you compose.

In case anyone is planning on visiting Clinton County over the summer, here's a nice link to the Eldon Hazlet Park, sent by Mrs. Eldon (Eileen) Hazlet. There's a really neat article in the November issue of Outdoor Illinois, too. It's never too early to make reservations for the cabins and/or campgrounds. http://dnr.state.il.us/lands/Landmgt/PARKS/R4/eldon.htm Another interesting web page is http://www.carlylelake.com/ Hotels/motels are listed in the Business section of http://www.carlyle.il.us/index.html
St. Francis Cemetery is still in Aviston. No excuse why it's missing from the "All Known Cemeteries". We'll add it in. We do have a volunteer who was reading the stones there, perhaps she'll give us an update on her progress. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tim Nix" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, April 19, 2003 8:22 PM Subject: [ILCLINTON] St. Francis cemetery? > The Clinton Co. The Clinton Co. GenWeb site lists all the known cemeteries in Clinton Co., but there's no St. Francis cemetery. Does anyone know where people buried from St. Francis Church in Aviston would have ended up? Thanks. -Tim Nix

Surnames: KERN KEHRER DUNNEWALD Submitter: Stephen Crawford ([email protected]) Date: 15 Apr 2003 Looking for Martin KEHRER and Cecelia DUNNEWALD. Martin was born in St. Clair County April 27, 1861 and died in July of 1925, probably in Clinton County. Cecelia died in 1898. Martin then married Mary Breuggam (1882-12/17/1963). Supposedly, Martin had 6 children with Cecelia and 10 with Mary. My wife's grandmother (Josephine Kehrer) was born in Clinton County and was one of the first 6; we know nothing of the other 15 siblings. Josephine married Ruby Furman KERN in (probably) 1917. We have obtained Martin's lineage, but have no information on Cecelia. Any information on these people would be very much appreciated. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello Joann ..........Not very likely that it's Rootsweb because they do not allow attachments and the only way to get infected is to open an attachment. However, It could have entered your mail program from ANY attachment. If you don't have an anti-viris program, use Google to find a free one on the web. They are all over the place. Good Luck .........Regards, Larry ----- Original Message ----- From: "Joann Coleman" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, April 10, 2003 8:55 PM Subject: [ILCLINTON] Re: ILCLINTO-D Digest V03 #44 > For some reason, my computer won't open any mail from you guys - for the > past month. I don't know what gives. I was always told that no viruses can get through the Rootsweb System. No one else has mentioned a problem. See if you can open this one. I'll send one to you privately and one through the List. Carol: Any ideas? Hi, MK: Since your email came through the Ancestry gateway, we just want to make sure that you have seen our web page at http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilclint2/ . I didn't see anything specific about your Claude John James. There were 2 queries on the James name, I think, almost 4.5 years ago. Here they are, it's supposed to be surnames but I can see where you must have a real problem searching for this surname. If you think they are indeed asking to correspond with other surname James researchers, you could try to email them - the emails can't do anything worse than bounce because the people changed their addresses since then. Surnames: COOPER JAMES Submitter: Victor O'Connell ([email protected]) Date: 26 Aug 1998 Surnames: PELSRING HELENA JAMES MOCK Submitter: Kathleen Sallis ([email protected]) Date: 16 Oct 1998 I see 3 James' families in the 1880 census, but not John Peter. There are none in the 1900 census so they probably already moved to St. Louis. I hope to look at microfilm next week at the FHC, and I'll see what the birth certificate, if it's there, says. Is there another current researcher on our County list for Weems? Herschel: Do you have the death certificate info for: Weems, Jas E. 58 747 and Weems, Martha J. 7 79? Did you see the two burials on http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilclint2/cemetery/irishtown/keyesport.htm ? In the 1880 census, I see Weemes, James E., 45, merchant, TN TN TN, living in the Horace and Mary Clark household in Irishtown Township. There is a 3 year old girl Weemck, Mary B. living 4 households earlier with William (physician, born 1848, KY) and Eliza Ann Hays, baby is IL TN MD. I see no Weemes in 1870 or 1900. http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=census/search_census.asp Dorothy ----- Original Message ----- From: Herschel Weems To: Dorothy Falk Sent: Sunday, April 06, 2003 1:48 AM Subject: Fw: Weems I don't have a lot of information on the Thomas Lewis Weems (1777-1829) line. He married a Hannah Galbreath in North Carolina in about 1795 then went to Sumner County Tennessee and on to Marion County, Illinois, arriving about 1820. Will recorded in Marion County in 1830. Per the will, Thomas and Hannah's children were Caroline; Catherine; Elizabeth married Joseph Helms; James; Jane; Nancy; Polly; Rosa; Sally; Thomas Lewis, Jr married Mary Mabry; John. Would like to know who the other children married. John was in the 1830 Marion county census. Thomas Jr and Mary's children that I know of were Thomas Leroy Braxton Weems and Martha Patsey. Thomas Leroy (1836-1909) married Laura Bradley, children were George Melvin Weems (moved to California), Harry L, Bertha Mae, Lewis T. (died as a child). Have no current contact for any of this family. I was grabbing for straws with the James C Weems who married Jenny Dill in Clinton County as maybe being the James, son of Thomas L! ewis Weems. Maybe William T was his son as he was married in Clinton County and no other Weems' I know of lived there. I have quite a bit on these people. Sarah Burroughs married a Thomas Franklin Weems (1855-1930) son of James Alston Weems (1828-1908). This Thomas Franklin was a brother to my Grand Father William Jesse Weems (1864-1920) who married Armenda Meador. My father was Austin Herbert Weems (1900-1981) who married Mandy Estella Dial. I don't believe that there was a close relationship between the two Weems families, but not sure. Trying to find out as much as possible about the John, son of Thomas Lewis, who some people are claiming is the father of James Alston Weems. Really trying to prove that this isn't correct. Bad news - No additional info on the 1875 marriage, the parent information wasn't recorded until 1878. I might be able to find the person who married them if that info would be worth while. Generally, I might be able to identify the township that the officiant normally performed marriages in. Let me know if you want that. Sorta' Good news - The information is probably available for the 1916 marriage, about 90% of that time frame list the parents. I'll check that on my next trip to the O'Fallon Family History Center.
