    3. Hi, Jim, I see James Monroe Biswell's marriage in the Illinois state marriage data base at http://www.sos.state.il.us/GenealogyMWeb/marrsrch.html I just inserted Biswell in the statewide groom data base. You could try to call up William Brown the same way - I skimmed the first 500 but I don't know his middle initial. You'll also have to call up Wm and Willis Brown. Then for fun, you could try Biswell statewide brides. If you still don't find anything, the Washington County marriages are not in the data base, you could check there. I assume you already checked in AR and MO. We do have a few other Biswell hits on http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilclint2/ "Search our sight for your Clinton County Ancestors surname" if you haven't seen those. Can't think of anything else right now to help you. 3. I have a greatgreataunt Ruth Ann FULTON CLARK MIDDLETON who was married to Joel Middleton and lived in Iuka, Marion Co., IL. She had a daughter, Rebecca Clark who lived with her well into her thirties. Then in 1880 she married a Charles MIDDLETON and moved to TX. I found Rebecca and Edgar Middleton in a TX cemetery listing. She had died in 1881, and Edgar had died soon after. Ruth Ann and Joel had a son, Josephus and many of this Middleton line lived in MO. I am thinking that this may be your line of Middletons as well. I have a little more about this line that I can share if you want it. 3. Dorothy, I went to the web page printed in the second line below. That is where I looked at surnames and found the Lander name. That is all I know, but I am searching desperately for all Lander families in order to overcome my stalemate on finding my great grandmother who was Mary Lander. She married Christian Wolf and Mary died in 1876, leaving me without many sources to find more about her. My grandmother was only nine months old when her mother, Mary, died. Any info on August Lander might help me. I'm going to the Midwestern Roots Conference in Indianapolis today and will be back Saturday. 3. Hi. Obviously records from 1819 are skimpy indeed. Our web page is at http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilclint2/ It does include our head of household censuses from 1818, 1820 and 1825. And that's probably as much as you're going to get for those years. We also have the earliest marriages listed there. They are also listed in the Illinois State data base at http://www.sos.state.il.us/departments/archives/marriage.html We have Miranda Bankson married to Charles Slump, but that old handwriting was pretty difficult to read sometimes. In the state data base, I inserted "Bankson" into the Brides statewide, and it says the only Miranda married Charles Stamp. No Bankston brides. Orenda Bankson married Samuel Smith in Clinton County if you think they could have used their middle names during that time of their life. There are some possibilities of your John F. Smith (compared to another John F. Smith) being mentioned in our 1881 History of Marion and Clinton Counties. There is a copy of that at the library - make sure you get the indexed copy. The Historical Society is open on Thursdays, they will have a copy for purchase if you found anything you can't do without. They might have something else, but again, not much exists for those years. Deaths and births weren't registered until 1878, and then only partially. Probably the best bet would be to go to the court house (go thru metal detector) and go to the Circuit Clerk's office. Try to get there no later than 1:00 if you can. They have a computerized listing of the probate boxes there. There is one for John F. Smith, but I have no idea what date it is/was. If you luck out, perhaps there might be a will in there and will list his children's names. The county clerk will have to go down to the storage area in the basement and find the folder for you. You will be allowed to read it and request copies (50 cents each) of anything you want. Check the computer for any other name, such as Andrew Bankson, etc. before you ask for the first one, so they only have to make one trip. Unless you find more new goodies inside the first folder. The next door way in the court house is the County Clerk's office. They might make you a copy of the ledger page for that Miranda that we have online if you think that the spelling is wrong. If it is wrong, please let me know and we'll change it on our page and in the state data base. If you find anything on our web page about initial purchase of land, this is the same office to ask for a copy of those records. We have links to the library, the History Society, the Circuit Clerk and the County Clerk online. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, July 09, 2003 1:23 PM Subject: [ILCLINTON] David Smith > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: Smith, Bankston > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/ig.2ADE/166 > > Message Board Post: > > David Smith was born in Clinton County, Il., in 1819, and we think his Father was John F. 3. No, we didn't see stones for them. Often times the families didn't have money for stones for babies/children, they had to use every penny they had to keep the other family members alive. Or the stones were so much smaller that the quality hasn't made it through these 100 + years. The only baby stone in St. Francis Cemetery that we show is B 4 63 KUES, J. Wilhelm 22 Nov 1878 16 Jun 1881 Here Rests. * ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, July 07, 2003 7:45 PM Subject: Re: [ILCLINTON] Death Record > Hi Dorothy, > > Thank you so much for the information.
