Hi, Ken, I've updated this afternoon's info The only two Coopers that we've found so far that are buried in Carlyle are: COOPER, George P. born 26 Dec 1835 died 17 Mar 1914 COOPER, Margaret A. born 1 Apr 1840 died 16 Feb 1924 For other Cooper links on our web page, go to the "Clinton County Surname Helper" and to the searchers under "Cemeteries" and "1920 Census". James and Harriet Cooper are listed in the 1900 census for Carlyle City. During proofing, the size of the household became a bit larger - there were 2 families in that house. The household number changed, too. According to http://www.sos.state.il.us/departments/archives/marriage.html Mary Cooper married James Clabaugh. If you want to check for other Coopers, you could go to that URL, and just insert Cooper for the brides in Clinton Co. Later try the grooms. Or you could expand it to statewide, or some other county. Page 160B Household 121 - 130, no address given, first 11 people can read, write and speak English. Cooper, James, Head, born May 1828, Age 72, married 47 years, born IL, father GA, mother TN, Ocupation: NG, Rent house Cooper, Harriet, wife, Mar 1839, 61, had 15 children, 11 living, KY KY GA Mainer, Theresa Dau, Jul 1879, 20, married 3 years, had 1 child, still living, IL IL KY Mainer, Edward, Son-Law, Aug 1869, 30, IL Unk Unk, Occupation ----- (Still no Mainer child listed. There is a entry in the Carlyle cemetery for Mains, Infant, no dates given - child of Mr. & Mrs. E. L. - that could easily be Mainer) Household 121-131 Claubaugh, James, Head, May 1855, 45, Married 23 years, Pa Pa Pa Day laborer, not available 6 months last year, Rent house Claubaugh, Mary, Wife, Sep 1855, 44, Had 8 children, 7 living, IL IL KY Claubaugh, Robert E., Son, Sep 80, 19, IL PA IL Day laborer, not available for work 1 month last year Claubaugh, Gora J., Dau, Apr 1883, 17, IL PA IL House servant Claubaugh, Louis Clinton, Son, Oct 1883, 16, IL PA IL Farm laborer, not available 0 months last year (I triple checked the birth months/years/ages of Gora & Louis - maybe Louis should have been 1885) Claubaugh, Martin C., Son, Dec 1886, 13, IL PA IL At school 9 months last year Claubaugh, Harriet L., Dau, Sep 1889, 10, IL PA IL At school 9 months last year Claubaugh, George W., Son, Feb 1893, 7, IL PA IL At school 4 months last year Claubaugh, Alfred W., Son, Oct 1896, 3, IL PA IL I don't have an index for 1910 but skimming through the City of Carlyle, I see that James Clabaugh is 56, widower, had 8 children, 5 living. Martin, Harriet and George, all single, still live with him. I did not see Cooper or Mainer, they could be there or they could have moved elsewhere. I'll check the death register at the FHC on my next trip there - maybe in a week or two. James Clabaugh was my grandmother's brother or cousin - some day I'll do my own tree and figure it out. I do have some Clabaugh info, if you need anything on them, please email me directly, not thru the List. Dorothy: That's them!!! I must say that your website is an absolute marvel. It boggles my mind how much information you have readily at hand. I'm researching my g-g-grandparents, James Cooper and Harriet Johnston, and the trail peters out in Clinton Co., Illinois. The 1880 Census places them in Irishtown, Clinton Co., and family history places them in Carlyle ca. 1884. Further, according to family history, they occupied a house in Carlyle on the corner of Fairfax Ave. and 3rd St. which was owned at the time by Richard Thomas Daniel. Apparently, the house was sold by Mr. Daniel in 1908, but no mention is made of what became of James and Harriet Cooper. Any insight into this matter would be of the greatest help to me. I've done online research on county sites in numerous states and I've yet to find a site with as comprehensive sets of databases as at the all-volunteer Clinton site. The posting of this lastest cemetery takes an already excellent site to a new level. With a few clicks of a mouse, researchers can not only find their ancestors, but can see who is buried near them. Just as they we find clues in our research from knowing who lived on the lands surrounding those where our ancestors lived, we can find clues in who is buried in the plots surrounding those where our ancestors died. Congratulations Dorothy, Gloria and Carol and the others who helped on a job not only WELL done, but EXCELLENTLY done. And congrats to the researchers in Clinton County. Another wonderful tool! Laura
Great work on reading the St. Francis Cemetery in Aviston, Illinois! Thank you for the time and hard work that you all put into it in order to help all of us working on family trees. You made it very easy to follow and obtained a lot of information. Thanks for making it easier for us to get information on our ancestors. Phyllis (Kues) Stroud
Thank you for your latest gift to us. You do excellent research. We just received a partial translation of a triple tombstone in the Damiansville Cemetery. I would like to send you the translation from German and ask if anyone has any information on these three women buried together. Left hand side: Here Rests in Peace with her mother, Anna Maria wife of Franz. ???.... born Dec. 25, 1845 died Dec. 13, 1875. Center Stone: Here Rests in Peace between her children Anna Maria wife of Heinrich H???? (not legible) born Dec. 15, 1801 died Dec. 28, 1875 Right hand Stone: Here Rests in Peace with her mother, Maria Anna, wife of Jack Winter born Nov. 1830 died Dec. 20, 1875. As they died within weeks of one another, we suspect an epidemic. The stone has clasped hands on the center stone and weeping willow trees engraved on the side stone. The stones are all connected into one large stone. We suspect that these are ancestors, but need more information. Hopefully someone will know of this mother and her two daughters. Thank you for your help. [email protected] Evelyn & Conrad Nettemeyer
