Herman Henry Berndsen married Mary Winter April 30, 1878 in Damiansville, Clinton, IL. Herman was the father of Joseph, the father of Leora Petronilla Berndsen Becker. Herman Henry was the son of Herman Hendrik Berndsen of Melstrup, Ambt Aschendorf, Kon. Hannover and Maria Catherine Schüermann of Rutenbrok,Ambt Meppen, Kon. Hannover. Herman Hendrik was the brother of my husband's great great grandfather Lambert Heinrich Bernsen, (Berendsen) of Aschendorf, Niedersachsen, GER and Anna Margaret Bernsen of Aschendorf, wife of Albert Haar of Damiansville. Lambert's son Franz moved to Texas and Herman's son Frank Berndsen moved to Piqua County KS. Their family has a reunion every July in Wichita and we have joined them on several occasions. Anna Margaret Haar had one son, Bernard John Haar of Damiansville. She had another son, Francis Henry Lennerk, by a first marriage in Holland. Francis is listed in the 1850 census in Clinton County. The family apparently love the names of Frank and Henry.
Thanks, Dorothy. Yes, I have checked the marriage database and have gone through all 278 odd pages of the 1860 Clinton county census. They remain a mystery! A first teaser - Have you looked at the Illinois marriages at http://www.sos.state.il.us/GenealogyMWeb/marrsrch.html Just insert the Moore and Marshall surnames and leave it at Statewide. Most Counties in the State did not have anything more on marriages besides the names and date and person that performed the marriage until 1878. They are not in the Clinton Co. 1860 census. I'll check other censuses this evening if no one else responds during the day. ----- Original Message ----- From: Laurin Grabowski To: [email protected] Sent: Friday, October 03, 2003 6:39 AM Subject: [ILCLINTON] Emery Moore and Sindy (Marshall) Moore Hello everyone. I am new to this list, and fairly new to researching my genealogy. I am looking for information on my 3G grandparents--Emery Moore and Sindy (Marshall) Moore. All that I know about them is from my 2G grandmother's (Annie Elizabeth Moore Fie) obituary. It said that she was the child of Emery Moore and Sindy (Marshall) Moore, and that she spent all of her life in Carlyle, Sandoval and Central City. Annie was born in 1870, so I am guessing Emery and Sindy were born somewhere between 1845 and 1855. I know that a female relative in that line was a Sioux indian who was adopted. I have no confirmation on who that was, but I think it might be Sindy. As I understand it, adoption records for Native American children weren't that good. Any information or tips for finding information in Clinton county would be appreciated. Thanks in advance! (Oh, how I wish I had been interested in genealogy when my grandma was still alive! I would like to thank the ladies that did the hard work of reading the Keysport Journal newspaper. I knew that my Dunn family left Clinton co and move to Montana, but did not know that a related family the Maddux also move at the same time. Thank you. . http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilclint2/news/index.htm Thanks Penny and Carol, they're great! > > > > ============================== > To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: > http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237
Thank you, Olivia Bernsen, for sending in this data. We recently visited the daughter of Joe Bernson who is Leora Bernson Becker now living in Breeze, Il. Do you happen to know how Joe Bernsen is related to Franz Bernsen? My husband's late mother said the Bernsen Family was related as Mary Anna Landmeier was my husband, Conrad Nettemeyer's maternal great great grandmother. Can you share any more history of this family?? Thank you for your help. Evelyn
I'm looking for 3 Holtgrave sibs, who did some research in Vincennes, Indiana a while back, perhaps with a Deutsch cousin. I think they were researching their Bigham tree. I may have some information to swap. Carol

It looks great, ladies! Thanks for the great new addition.
Carol has loaded Kelly Isaak's transcription of the Lake Township from the 1870 census online http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilclint2/1870census/lake.htm . There is the usual enumerator sequence and an alphabetical sequence. If you could spare the time to transcribe one township, instructions are there on how to contact Kelly. Thanks, Kelly and Carol.
Regarding the headstone. This mother was Mary Anna Landmeier wife of Henry Hoenken. Her daughter, Anna Maria Hoenken, was the wife of Franz Bernsen. Anna Maria and Franz had three children, Henry Lambert, John, and Annie Mary and were great grandparents of my husband. Franz later married Anna Maria Elizabeth Wilken Behne Dulle and they and all of their children/step children moved to Colorado County TX about 1880. A few weeks ago we wrote in asking for help regarding a three person headstone in Damiansville CC. Gloria and Dorothy went to view this stone, translated the German inscriptions and checked the church records. They identified the stone inscriptions as: Berenien, Anna Maria born 5 Dec. 1845 died 13 Dec. 1875 wife of Franz. Hoeveten, Anna Maria born 15 Oct. 1801 died 26, Dec. 1875 wife of Heinrich. She is the mother and her two daughters are buried on each side. Winter, Maria Anna born 10 Nov.`1830 died 20 Dec. 1875. Wife of Joseph Winter. If anyone is related to this mother and her two daughters, please write to us. I want to offer our deepest appreciation and gratitude to Gloria and Dorothy for the fantastic job they did in indentifying this 128 year old stone for our family. You never cease to amaze me by your expertise and willingness to help. Thank you seems hardly enough to express our gratitude for identifying Conrad's great grandmother, gg grandmother plus a great aunt of his Winter Line. Evelyn and Conrad Nettemeyer

Carol has loaded Penny Sanders' excerpting of 7 issues of the Keyesport Journal newspaper from 1897 and 1898. They are fun to read and cover many other communities besides Keyesport. The searcher may not kick in until tomorrow. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilclint2/news/index.htm Thanks Penny and Carol, they're great!

Hi Donna; I lost the e-mail from you about your Middleton's so I am writing the mailing list again. I would very much like to have any information that you could send me. My Charles Middleton was living in Ripley Co., MO in 1900. I don't know where he was before that. Any information would help. Thanks Charlotte
Thanks so much for the information on the three Ratermann deaths listed in the Clinton County Death Book Phyllis (Kues) Stroud
