Linda and all, Yes the microfilm reader printer at the Breese Library is ready to go. The Breese Historical society has microfilmed the Breese Journal from 1928 thru 1932 and 1964 thru 1968. These films are not available thru the library system, but are in the library in Breese The state didn't microfilm them for some reason. Granted the newspapers from 1928 thru 1932 were in very bad shape, and aren't complete, however we captured what was left of them for others to see. Sorry to say but because of their poor condition the microfilm company couldn't microfilm them in order. We have ordered copies of all other microfilms that the state has in their inventory. At last month's meeting Kay Chago stated they should be here in 6 weeks. We have a meeting next Wednesday at the Breese Activity Center (the old Civil defense Building and currently the Senior Citizen Center). Unfortunately I will be out of town and will not be there to check whether the films are still on schedule. By the way, the Breese Historical Society has an email site that I currently control, if anyone has anything that they want to ask us they can email us at [email protected], I check the mail every two to three days. John
Does anyone know if the new microfilm machine at Breese is ready to go? and if do they have the copies of Breese Journals there?
Have you been able to find Lucinda Jane in the 1860 census? I don't see her or most of her family listed in the Clinton County 1860. The Crawford families that are listed are: (1) William H., 38, Ga, Elizabeth, Nancy, f, 18, Ga, John. and (2) Thomas, 24, IL, E. M. (male) 21, Sarah, 19, Samantha 2, John, 5. Based on the 1850 census, Thomas could be Lucinda's brother. Marriage licenses in those days did not include names of parents. Have you found a death certificate for Lucinda Jane? Do you know what church they might have attended? There is a probate box in the Carlyle Court House, Circuit Clerk's office, http://www.clintonco.org/circuit_clerk.htm for Zach Crawford, E. Crawford, Executor. There is no telling what might be inside that envelope - you could always hope for a will or an estate settlement which lists children. I don't know that this is the correct Zach Crawford, but it might be worth a try. The man listed after him died in 1849, but "your" Zach was in the 1850 census. There are no dates on my old listing so I can't confirm that it is chronological. There are also probate boxes for Alexander Crawford of whom Z. Crawford was the executor, (this is listed before the one above) and for Jas. A. or Jos. A. Crawford for whom J. B. Williams was executor, and for E. M. Crawford for whom Thomas J. Crawford was the executor. Allow several hours for browsing through at least 4 probate boxes (they are just envelopes). Copies are 50 cents per page. Someone in that office will help you check the computer to see if there are any other Crawfords listed. Be sure to ask for all of them at one time so they don't have to make 2 trips down to the basement to the storage area. The 1850 Census was as of 1 June, so Lucinda Jane would have been 7, but it would not be unusual to have a frazzled respondent give a wrong age unintentionally. With the children listed in such perfect stair-steps, it would appear to be safe that this Lucinda is the daughter of this Zachariah. You could get a copy of the original census page if that would help fill your need for additional documentation. Let me know privately if you want more info on probate boxes, etc. Dorothy ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: Friday, October 10, 2003 9:16 PM Subject: [ILCLINTON] Lucinda Jane Crawford This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Bob, I went through the "T" index three times looking for any Ferdinand and saw none. Nor is there any Ferdinand under the "F". Since you told me what that name is supposed to be, that 1870 image for Household 99 on Page 360A could also be transcribed as Teener. If anyone ever uses the computer to assist in transcribing it (like Ancestry.com?) it might come out something like Fuenr. And no Dittmers in 1860 or 1870 although there are some Detmers later on. Nothing in 1881 History book on Theener, etc. or Dittmer. The only Detmer is Mary, married to Gerhard H. Otke, she came from Hanover, Ger. in 1837, they are patrons of the book, lived in Breese Township. Good luck in finding where Ferdinand stopped enroute to St. Louis and Catherine.
