My grandparents Charles and Julia Webster lived in Posey Ill on a fruit farm, I think. My mother was born around there somewhere. Joann Higgins Coleman PS I've never been there; we visited Huey, Ill a lot when I was a child.--
My brother-in-law and his family have roots in Posey. They are descendants of Samuel Leaton and Mary DOSKER JOHNSON. I also show an Ethel PARKS HIGGINS COLE as buried there. Oral COLE was a brother to my uncle William Wesley COLE. For anyone who would like to get a glimpse of the activities that are going on here in St. Louis to celebrate the New Year (we usually have something called First Night) and to kick off the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair as well as the 200th anniversary of Lewis & Clark, go to www.ksdk.com This is a local television station that is the "official TV station" for this coverage. They have some video and some other info there that you might enjoy reading. I am kept in by a bum knee of I would be there too. It is being covered on TV as well. Happy and Healthy New Year to all. Hi, Lauren, "Southeast of Centralia" would mean the cemetery is not in Clinton Co. That majority of that town is in Marion Co., a small portion is in Clinton Co. According to http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnis/web_query.gnis_web_query_form there are two Gilead Cemeteries in Jefferson County, none are listed for Clinton Co. or Marion Co. The closeness of the three counties are shown on the Illinois map at http://www.ilgenweb.com/ilgenmap.htm Bottom line - perhaps try Jefferson Co. next. ----- Original Message ----- From: Laurin Grabowski To: [email protected] Sent: Monday, December 29, 2003 6:54 AM Subject: [ILCLINTON] ISO info re Gilead Cemetery, SE of Centralia Hello everyone! Happy New Year! To get you back into the genealogy business, Carol has loaded the Carlyle City Cemetery readings, and the plat maps for each of those sections to help you know who is buried with your ancestors, and a printable overall map of the co-located Carlyle and St. Mary's Cemeteries. The St. Mary's listing and plat maps have been online for some time. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilclint2/cemetery2/index.htm Thanks to all of our volunteers who helped work on this enormous job.
I understand someone may look up this information for me if I request it. Mary Anna GOFFRA that appeared in the Death Record Book I Index, Dec 1877 - June 1903, Page 2 Record 1440. This may or may not be the person I'm looking for. However, the name Schofra has been mispelled so many different ways I need to take the chance. Her husband Antoine Schofra died in 1835 and they had a son named George who was born in 1835. Mary Anna may be the mother of my ggrandfather John also. Thanks so very much for your assistance. Greetings, Everyone! The St. Joseph marriages list has been updated on Dave Lossos' site: <A HREF="http://genealogyinstlouis.accessgenealogy.com/">Genealogy in St. Louis</A> Thanks to Laura Bozzay for proofreading them and to several others for their input as well. These records are a challenge to say the least. The database has been checked, rechecked and checked again but I'm sure you can find a mistake. All umlauted names have been retained once in each record with the probable English form in brackets. This was done to keep the flavor of the records and to hopefully make the names more findable. Below is Laura's suggestion for searching the page. Thanks, Laura. If there is a question mark contained in the record, it means this was my best guess as to the spelling of the name. As Gary would say - Good hunting! You can email me if you have questions. Hi, Ellen, Hope some Bankson/Bankston researchers will respond, too. Your IGI note says they were married in the town of Clinton in DeWitt County. Clinton County had Banksons here, and we are close to Lebanon. The two Clintons are often confused. No matter which county it was, the Illinois Marriage data base is at http://www.sos.state.il.us/GenealogyMWeb/marrsrch.html . I recommend that you only enter Smith in the groom block and just enter Banks in the bride block and the computer will return all spellings that begin with that shorter spelling. Not much turns up, there is one in Clinton County, but not the one you are looking for. It's possible they got married here but the licenses just didn't get recorded. So far no one has shown us proof that something is missing from the court house records, but it is possible. It's also possible that they didn't get married in IL but did get married in IA. I have no idea why it was once listed in IGI but not now. Perhaps you could go into a Family History center near you and ask them. Did you check both spellings? ----- Original Message ----- From: Ellen Blackstone To: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, December 06, 2003 9:06 PM Subject: [ILCLINTON] Miranda BANKSTON m.
