    1. [ILCLINTON] Kudos to Gloria! Re: [StL-Metro] Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery-Baden, MO
    2. Yet another brilliant example of the time and dedication Gloria has put into transcribing records and sharing them with the genealogical community. The database is awesome and hopefully will help reunite many lost family members. I, for one, am truly impressed. Thanks also to Dave for making the space to share these and other records :) Tracy in AK In a message dated 2/19/04 6:20:27 AM Alaskan Standard Time, [email protected] writes: > Subj: [StL-Metro] Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery-Baden, MO > Date: 2/19/04 6:20:27 AM Alaskan Standard Time > From: [email protected] > To: [email protected] > > http://genealogyinstlouis.accessgenealogy.com > > Greetings, Everyone! > This is to officially announce the online (URL above) list of people who > were > buried in the Bethlehem Cemetery located at Swtizer and Bittner in Baden, > Missouri before those graves were moved to the New Bethlehem Cemetery in > North > St. Louis County some time in the 1960s.

    1. [ILCLINTON] Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery-Baden, MO
    2. http://genealogyinstlouis.accessgenealogy.com Greetings, Everyone! This is to officially announce the online (URL above) list of people who were buried in the Bethlehem Cemetery located at Swtizer and Bittner in Baden, Missouri before those graves were moved to the New Bethlehem Cemetery in North St. Louis County some time in the 1960s. The current cemetery, open to anyone, is still owned by the Bethlehem Lutheran Church on Salisbury in St. Louis. Thank you to: Mr. Mike Odle, the Superintendent of Bethlehem Cemetery who uncovered these wonderful ledger book treasures. Pastor John Schmidtke of Bethlehem Lutheran Church who secured permission from the church to put these records online. Dave Lossos for putting the list on his website. There is no introduction on Dave's site just yet so here is a little explanation about the database: It contains over 2000 names which were garnered from 4 ledger books most of which are falling apart. The earliest death date is Jan 1857. Most of these records were written in German in the old style of writing. There were three ledger books that were identical in appearance and probably dated back to the 1870s. The 3 identical books are listed as I, II and SG for Single Grave. The fourth ledger book, called C, is from 1928 when someone copied ledger books I and II into it. There were inconsistencies between the Copied ledger and the older originals so I used the older information. Many of the entries are just names listed under the lot owner's name. The key for the Source of each entry might help you get an idea of the time frame. I could go on and on but will just end by saying that I hope to have an introduction to the database online with it soon. Happy hunting, everyone! Gloria

Maria Anna Hilmes' second marriage at St. Boniface Church, Germantown, in April 1849 to the widower Bernard Henry WALLER, is witnessed by Elisabeth Hilmes, believed to be the wife of Johan Heinrich. The other witness is Joannes Bernard Waller. I do not know the relationship between these WALLERs and Clemens Waller although Bernard Henry Waller is not believed to have had any children. In the 1850 census, as transcribed on the Clinton Co. website, the family of Henry HILMERS consists of: Hilmers Henry (30), Catharine (30), John (13), Mary (60), OLTENS, Frederick, 60. Viewing the actual census record, Frederick appears as OTTENS. The family immediately following, recorded as WALLIS is the family of Henry Waller and his wife Mary Ann, 42, nee Hilmes. In the 1860 Clinton County census p. 839, Henry HILLMAR (44) is recorded with his wife Caroline (40) and children Theodore (9), Theresa (9) and Anna (6). Maria Anna Hilmes (as Wallers) appears on the preceeding page, age given as 52. Maria Anna Hilmes' first marriage, to Bernard Lawrence EILERS, born Dorf Lengerich, Hanover in 1810, preceeded their emigration to the US, probably on the Ship Rockall in late Dec. 1846. There is additional information for Anna Theresa Hilmes (b. 1829) listed on the Emslander website (www.emslanders.com) including her marriage to Herman Bernard Richter and the names of her children. With some small exceptions (AOL being the big one), the changeover went well. Your ISP will now see mail from RootsWeb coming from a different address and you may need to change your spam filtering. If you are not receiving your list mail you need to contact your ISP and have them check their spam filtering for RootsWeb. They have attempted to contact most ISPs that have reported problems in the past but may have missed some. Of course, if your ISP is having a problem you won't get this message... It's a catch 22. 1. [ILCLINTON] Re: George L. Frazier
    2. Bob, In your request for help George L. Frazier & his wife Amanda. You made the following statement. "The county records shows she was buried in Trenton, Il. however the cemetery records do not confirm. Believe he came to Il. after 1865." If you are stating that the written cemetery records do not record her burial that is one thing. If you are stating that you have check a cemetery survey that is another point. However, these surveys are usually done by checking only the tombstones. NOT all burials have tombstones. It is estimated that only about 60% of all burials in any given cemetery have tombstones. Tombstones cost big dollars and not all families can afford them. You are looking for a person who was buried in 1904. Let's assume that a tombstone would have cost $10 in 1904 this would equate to something over $130 in 2004 dollars The two largest cemeteries here in St. Louis have whole sections were tombstones were removed and destroyed several years ago. Several years back tombstones were removed from St. Peter's UCC Cemetery because of non-payment of Perpetual Care, this was the same story at Calvary, Sts. Peter & Paul and Bellefontaine. Cemetery surveys are great in many cases but they are not the final answer. Even if you find the tombstone be very skeptical when it comes to believing what is engraved on it. Ask your self a few questions: 1. What is the condition of the stone, is it old and weathered or is it new? 2. Are the dates verifiable by master records? Always use the data from records closest to the event, i.e. the birth date on the marriage certificate is closer to the birth date than the death certificate or tombstone. I have records on at least one of my ancestors that has three different birth dates, one for each of these (Records). Even printed records or frequently incorrect. There are several cases in point. A few years back the Cemetery Records for St. Boniface Cem. were printed and they were full of errors (this cemetery has been resurveyed, thank goodness), but the old survey is still out there for the unsuspecting researcher. I paid for information that the person interpreted for me, she wouldn't let me even look at the record for myself. New Baden City Cemetery also was carried on the web as being surveyed, trouble is what was there was actually 3 different cemeteries. This situation has now been corrected. But I believe the old survey is still on line.
