    1. [ILCLAY-L] Sarah Belle White
    2. Ray Oliver
    3. A long time resident of Sailor Springs passed away Saturday, June 12, 1999 at a nursing home in Wayne County. IL. Sarah Belle WHITE was my grand aunt and was born 8 Jan 1903 in Hoosier Township. She was the youngest and last of her family. Her father, Solomon, was a farmer and township supervisor in the 1920's. Her mother was a COGGAN, Sarah Blanche, who was the youngest of a family who had emigrated from Canada and the only one born in USA (Clay, IL). Her grandfather Denby Coggan was a master carpenter who, with his son Manliffe, built many school houses in Clay Co as well as the "hotels' at the Springs. Sarah Belle's paternal grandfather was William White, a Civil War veteran when he was in his forties. William came to Hoosier Twp, IL before 1860 from Jefferson County, TN. Sarah Belle and her siblings did not know their grandfather, as he died in 1875 at Hoosier (before "The Springs"). She might have known her grandmother, however, who was Dianah BARLOW when she died at Sailor Springs in 1912 (widow of George W). Dianah was a LUTES from Estill Co, KY and her father, Henry, was an early settler in Clay County. Henry had only the daughter and therefore the name LUTES is extinct in the vicinity, although it thrives in KY and elsewhere. Henry , his wife and many Whites are buried in the "White" family plot on the old farm. I hope Sarah Belle will be buried there also. Ray Oliver in St. Louis
