Hi, I'm new to the Clay Co. list and was hoping I could find someone researching my particular MOORE line. I am searching for information about a Sylvester MOORE born in Ohio in 1831? The first I have found of my Sylvester was in the 1850 Clark County, Ohio Census. He is living with a Lloyd Sayre, and went to school within the year. There were several other people living in the household as well, but only one Moore. The 1860 census lists his father as being born in New Jersey and his mother as being born in New York. What is interesting is that he is married and Illinois by 1860. He married Rachel E. ?, and on the 1850 census a Rachel E., ten years younger than on the 1860, was living two houses over (another Moore family). I wonder if that was his wife and she was a Moore of her own right. Both of her parents, according to the 1860 census, were from Tennessee. By 1860 the family was in Clay County, Illinois. Between 1860 and 1880 Sylvester and Rachel had five children, all born in Illinois: Almira A. 1860, Laura J. 1864, Vallandingham M. 1866, Sylvester E. 1874, and Nettie Mae 1873. In 1860, they have 10 year old Emma Moore living with them as well as their own 6 months old daughter, Almira. I know Emma isn't Rachel's daughter because in a later census she is listed as only having 5 kids. However Emma was born in Illinois. The family moved to Texas around 1885 and settled in Tarrant County just southwest of Fort Worth. I am particulary interested in finding out who Sylvester's parents were. In 1860, Sylvester and his family are living near a Samuel B. Moore, age 62, and his children John H. 26 b. OH, Martha 21 b. Ill, Samuel 19 b. Ill. I am wondering if Samuel was Sylvester's father. A Polly Moore is also buried here in Fort Worth in the same cemetery as Sylvester and Rachel. This is a small community cemetery with maybe 30 graves. Polly Moore was born in 1835. I would appreciate any help with the research of this family. I am willing to share the info I have as well as some photos of the Moore farm. Sarah Fezio jcross@metronet.com
