    1. [ILCLAY-L] desperately seeking Permelia Phillips cemetery record
    2. Viki Lovell
    3. Permelia Phillips nee Stallings born Abt. 1794; died between 1845-1850. She had a variety of nicknames such as Amelia, Melia, Pamelia, probly because of the styles of spelling during her lifetime. She had seven children and decided to try and divorce her abusive husband anyway. She wasn't sucessfull legally with her divorce but walked away and left him, taking her children with her. She is listed as the head of household in Clay County, Illinois in the 1830 census but then she disappears! She isn't found living with any of her children. She had many relatives living in Illinois and Indiana but we haven't found her living with any of them. Our family lore says she may have married Thomas Levet, but on this marriage record she used her maiden name Stallings (not Phillips) when she entered this union. We ask ourselves is this our Permelia, why did she use her maiden name Stallings, was she running from her abusive husband (the old goat!) Permelia's cemetery record could be listed under Phillips, Levitt or who knows she may have wanted to rest in peace and used her maiden name Stallings. It has been a 20 year search for her, involving 3 generations of our family. Any lead, scrap of information, or family lore that gives a hint of her final resting place would be greatly appreciated, and allow us a little rest too. Thank-you, Viki
