Tricia, I looked through my stuff and I came across an article in Xenia Then and Now which addresses part of your search for Giles Songer. Here's the text: "...Samuel Songer (1801-1874) and his wife Elizabeth Whitman (who died in 1881). Both were buried in the Songer Cemetery and Songer township was named for Samuel. The previously printed volume of Clay County History deals well with this family and we shall conclude now with some quotations from the unpublished family record. 'We lived on the Sam Payne place from 1828 until 1829. (Note* this was about 2 miles West of Xenia on the old trail) We moved to our new home in March of 1829. (Note* This is N.W. corner of Sec. 33, Songer Twp. present site of Nelson Moore Residence) We carried coals between two boards so we could start a fire... this home was made of split logs, 18 feet square with not a nail in it...it had one door and no windows. (Note* this was Samuel Songer's children giving this account. It is not know where the other children went. Abram did live south of Cato. The mother, Catherine, died in 1845 and is buried in Campground Cemetery)...Giles and his sisters went on to Trenton, Missouri. Many of their people are still living in Missouri...Abram was a Soldier in the Black Hawk Indian war..." Hope this helps a little. Like you I am baffled by Noah Colclasure. I found no reference to him anywhere in all my Colclasure stuff. Let me know if you find the connection. Nancy Hashimoto nhashimo@wppost.depaul.edu
